At Power Shift 2011, 10,000 young leaders came together to reclaim our
democracy and move our country beyond dirty energy. The Online Community
Manager will help build on our momentum and grow the new
WeArePowerShift.org online community. Since April, WeArePowerShift.org has
become a hub of activity for the youth climate and clean energy community that
drive the Power Shift summits, with hundreds of grassroots leaders
contributing, and thousands taking action. Energy Action Coalition is
looking for an Online Community Manager to continue to work with partners
and the grassroots to build and grow the space.
The Online Community Manager will work with our partners and our newly
formed volunteer Leadership Team to take WeArePowerShift.org and Energy
Action Coalition’s campaign work to the next level, developing strategy,
implementing campaigns and offering trainings and leadership development to
build the capacity of the movement. This is an exciting opportunity to join
a fast-paced, dynamic, and driven team. If you are results-oriented and

*PRIMARY JOB ACTIVITIES:*
1. Work with Energy Action Coalition team and partners to develop new
and innovative strategies to engage the online youth climate movement
2. Develop and implement online campaigns to support Energy Action
Coalition’s field work and campaign goals
3. Manage and develop the WeArePowerShift.org online community,
including supporting our new Leadership Team and developing and offering
trainings
4. Generate compelling blog content to promote campaigns for
WeArePowerShift.org and other blogs
5. Track and report metrics on online engagement to help us better
communicate with supporters and tell the story of our work
*SECONDARY JOB ACTIVITIES*
1. Support the Online Director in development of online campaigns and
actions
2. Draft and send email blasts and action alerts
3. Develop the online plan and outreach efforts for mass events and
campaigns, particularly Power Vote 2012 and Power Shift
4. Support efforts to expand our audience and reach through social
media, online ads, etc.
*DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:*
- Strong experience writing for the web across a variety of contexts -
ability to clearly write and explain complex issues
- Deep understanding of social media and movement building
- Two to five years grassroots or online organizing experience working
in the youth climate movement, issue based campaigns, political campaigns,
or other similar organizations to plan and implement grassroots campaigns.
- Basic knowledge of HTML/CSS, and experience with Content Management
Systems
- Experience working with under-served communities, communities of color
and/or environmental justice organizations is a plus.
- Ability to work independently, cooperatively and effectively with
public, staff and volunteers.
- Strong overall technical skills and the ability to quickly new
platforms, problem solve, and find solutions
- Interest in climate change, energy, or related social justice issues.
