Hi all,

Am still recovering from my first tail wind landing and have decided to retire from flying. Don't be sad for me as I had a lot of fun and made some great friends.

Anyway, I am offering up the following items for sale in case any fellow Dynasoarers would be interested in them before they all go on eBay next week.

Refer attached photograph.

#1. Silva ADC Wind meter- $50 (New price $166). Battery cover has damaged latch and gaffa tape is required to keep it closed. Could probably get a new cover from Silva fairly easily if it worries you. www.aquatronics.com.au/product/silva/silva_adc_wind

#2. Charly Insider Helmet Medium (I think)- $70 (New $250?) Charcoal color with silver US Navy artwork painted on side. Has high quality Plantronics Stereo headset installed. Very comfortable Helmet.

#3. Icom VS-1 Press To Talk/VOX - $20 or free if you buy the Helmet. Very rugged PTT which can be easily switched to Voice Activated for towing. Is set up for Icom IC40s radios.

#4. Conar Metamorfosi HG18 reserve parachute - $400 (New $1050) Is well due a repack but has lived dry inside my harness pouch for last 5 years and looks like brand new.   www.hangglide.com.au/Accessories.htm

#5. Dynamic Flight Tow bridle - $40 (New $120 approx) Brand new, never used.

#6. Flytec 4005 Vario - $100 (New $465)  www.aerosports.net/flytec.html

#7. Jack Safety Knife /Hook Knife - $5 or free with the purchase of any of the above items.

#8. Bar Mitts - $20 (New $90) I bought these in from the UK as I've never seen ones as good for sale here in Australia. These are awesome fleece lined bar mitts that have clear mylar pouches on the backs that are big enough to put instruments or maps in. I used to keep my Vario in there and one of them has a small hole in the plastic to allow static pressure changes to reach the vario quickly. They velcro apart for rapid installation to your speed bar. You will never have cold hands again with these.

Or $600 the lot  (Individually it adds up to $705 so that's a $100 saving - what a bargain)

Anyone interested can email or call me on 0413 445 690 and is welcome to drop by to inspect/try on the items. I live in Leopold, halfway between Geelong and Queenscliff. New prices are roughly what I paid and what various websites appear to be listing them for still, apologies if they are inaccurate. If you find a better deal feel free to use it to bargain with me :).

These are only on offer until Wednesday 18th April, after that they go on eBay.

Cheers, Jason.

Hey Jase,

Sorry to hear you are retiring from flying.

I’m very interested in the bar mitts so if you do not get anyone purchasing the lot for $600, which is a great bargain, then I will take them off your hands – literally!

cheers

Thanks Jase,

I will take them!

As suggested by Cindi if you can organise for either her or Jan to pick them up and pay for them, I will reimburse them (with commission) when I see them.

Thanks again

Hi everyone,
Just to let you know my gear has all now found its way to other pilots who will hopefully get many years of happy flying with it.
Thanks very much to those who wanted to purchase the items and very sorry to those who I was unable to help out.

I plan on writing an article for the mag about what I have learned from my experience but one of the hindsight lessons I think about is that I wish my glider didn't have faired uprights as these have no flex fore/aft and your arms take it all if you wop in.
The other one would be that if I still flew I would never attempt low coastal dune flying on anything other than a Malibu or a Fun.

But thanks again everyone and wish you all years of great flying!

Cheers Jason.

Hi Jason,

It's always sad when someone leaves the sport. I've been around for about
20 years and it's almost always bad landings that seem to be the cause or at
least the final straw for pilots.
I think there is not enough training in landing a hang glider and how to
avoid injuries when you know you are going to crash. I don't know about
your accident, but only using your fingers on at least one hand when flaring
lets you slip through the A frame when you come in hard and prevents broken
bones.
This is probably worthless to you now.
On the other hand, hang gliding will always be there for you if you want to
come back.

Mike

Rob Wenban, a very experienced pilot from the MHGC, put together a great article about "how to crash without hurting yourself too much" (attached).

I think one of the major assistors in our area are wheels - but down the coast the cool type of wheels are probably useless - so maybe as a club we should consider options / advise for low hour pilots i.e. the foam type that work on sand, about why they should use them. Compulsory red ribbon and foam wheels??

Obviously as pilots in command we make the final decisions.

I also agree with Mike that we never do enough practice / training in landings - especially tail wind.

Again very sad to hear Jase is leaving the sport but maybe with all the communication around it we can use this information for other pilots, new or just entering the sport

Cheers :-)
