Good morning,

There were no major, or seemingly newsworthy incidents from yesterday and the overnight shift to report.

NOTICE FOR BLOCK WATCH & MANAGEMENT TEAMS:

At the beginning of each week, I'll be including Burglary and Theft from auto statistics in the POLICE NEWS e-mail.

We are experimenting with the form the information will be provided in, and it may change in the future. I'm forwarding one version as a call report and the other as a map. My hope is that when residents see the areas where property crimes are most prevalent, neighborhood efforts (such as leaving porch lights on at night, trimming foliage, and removing valuables from automobiles) will become a greater tool in preventing some of these crimes from being committed.

Each District Manager and Patrol Officers have been notified (through the FLASH SHEET) of the availability of "Block Watch" signs. Jim Traverse, the City's Traffic Czar will have the signs put up as soon as a list of 80 select locations has been provided to him. In order for that to happen, the District Managers will forward a list of locations to me by may 18, 2012. If you'd like to suggest an intersection in need of a sign, please e-mail your District Manager. Do not call me. You know better than me where such signs would best be used.

When the supply runs out, we'll order more as the budget allows. We do have a grant for Neighborhood Services, and will also be printing a Block Watch reference guide once a bit more information is compiled. it will be a combination of Crime Prevention standards, Tips on preventing Identity Theft & On-line crimes, and a condensed version of the City resource guide. It is my hope that this reference book will be distributed City-wide.

Before it is printed, I'll send a notice welcoming community input. Anyone interested in helping with authoring this book, should e-mail me some time next week.

Best wishes, DBH

As a public meeting, it is alright and expected that members of the public cannot stay or arrive for the complete discussion. Please feel free to email our board with any questions with regards to your city.
