Hi everyone: the illegally operated motorbike problem is a quality of life issue that is very important to me and to many New Haveners. In July, I was robbed by two young men one on an illegally operated dirt bike while I was riding my bicycle home. As it stands, these illegally operated dirt bikes are not only excruciatingly loud, and ridden in manners dangerous to both riders and pedestrians alike, BUT, many of these teens and men alike, have made it very clear on many occasions (both through words and deeds) that they are not willing to stop breaking the law--much less play by the rules of "share the road," I can attest to the latter since I was nearly run off the road that day in July too.
A group of neighbors and I recently started a campaign to lobby the City of New Haven and State for better laws around this issue (we understand there is a no-chase policy in the City, and are in agreement with it). However, if you would like to show your support for stronger confiscation and fines of illegally operated motorbikes, please sign our petition. We are only 11 votes away from 400 signatures and are really looking to hit 500 by the time we lobby the State General Assembly in early 2013.
To recap, we are talking unregistered, uninsured dirt bikes and atv's ridden by more often than not unlicensed and brazen riders on City streets and inside parks. If you have already signed the petition, please consider helping us out further by sharing the link, the latter has really helped out greatly in reaching more people.
