Hi there,

At the last Con the hotel were also doing Burger and Chips etc in the
room by the Swimming Pool.

Will they be doing the same again this year?

Cheers,
Graham.

do you mean the bar?
I fully expect a bar menu to be in place, however this is something we
have no control over as it is the public bar. Availability and speed
of service will depend on how many people order at once.

If you mean another room then that's not something we have negotiated
in the past, perhaps that was a different Con?

No, you go past the bar (after turning left from the main entrance) and
then right just before the swimming pool.

There again, you may be right and it could have been a different Con at
the same hotel, they all tend to blur together after a while!

It's just that, whilst I don't have food allergies etc, I do have very
limited tastes and prefer not to pay the prices they ask for bar food.
IIRC at whichever Con it was, they were doing Burger and Chips (and a
couple of other reasonably plain style offerings for about 6.

Cheers,
Graham.

I think that's the Westminster Suite, which is where the con food was
last time. I don't know whether it's in the same place this time, but
I'm pretty sure that's what was originally being referred to.

I've just found the map on the Hilton Metropole site and it's the
Pavilion Room (behind the Westminster Suite aka Harga's)

I've just been digging through back e-mails and I think I'm probably
getting mixed up with Illustrious (Eastercon 2011) which was also at the
Metropole), sorry for the confusion.

Cheers,
Graham.

Ah the quest for plain food, I remember it well!

It's worth noting that the hotel staff were very helpful and very accommodating with those of us that have a more limited taste... though they did struggle with the concept of 'plain'.

It was funny in the end, how do you explain that 'plain chicken... with a nice tomato and herb sauce', is no longer plain?

After some confusion, delays and mistakes on their part they presented me with a free a desert on sunday night... Three types of ice cream all containing different bits (for want of a better word), liberally sprinkled with sauce, nuts, candy bits and forest fruits!
I might just brave the bar prices in future but I have to say that a pre-organised plain option in the convention food list would be much appreciated!

Oh - I thought that was the *other* side of the swimming pool. My mistake :-)

Yes, I'm pretty sure that was Illustrious. Easy to get confused when
they're a lot of the same people at the same hotel!
