If anyone's on the waiting list (or missed out entirely on Con
membership), I've just found myself unable to go. £33 via Paypal will
secure you A165, which is a concessionary membership at the early bird
price, which you can then upgrade to suit by asking
members...@dwcon.org
I'll also be cancelling my room booking with the hotel, so that will
become available in the normal way.
The cut-off date for membership changes is 6 July, so I'm afraid it's
quite tight - first come, first served.
"The cut-off date for membership changes is 6 July"
- I must have missed that somehow - could someone (official) confirm if
this is the definite date? Sorry to doubt you Tony but as far as I was
aware we could sell/upgrade up until the 3rd of August - I've cut and
pasted the below from the con website membership page...The (not so) small
print:
Membership fees are non-refundable. If you are unfortunately unable to
attend you may sell or give your membership to another person. It is very
important to inform us if you do this, so that we can facilitate the
transfer.
Exchanges of memberships, as well as any changes to Membership details, can
only be done up to 21 days prior to the start date of the convention.
(Bought a supporting membership for a friend who won't know until after the
6th of July whether she can come or not...)

I'm an official person (well.. I'm a person at least). Membership is
just having a fight to decide what the final date will be, we have
recently said the July date though so we've got time to get everything
printed and what-not but that obviously contradicts what we've said
before.
I fear it might be a fight to the death but we'll let you know one way
or another soon.

The earlier date is for locking down the database, getting badges printed, etcetera. This may end up being earlier than the previously-stated 21 days, due to various other time-commitments of all the volunteers involved with making the Convention happen.
Other than proof of concessionary status, we don't check whether the person turning up is the one with the ticket. If people arrange between themselves to pass tickets on, that is fine with us, but you may well end up with an incorrect name badge. Ops may be able to help with that at the Con itself, with stickers and pens as a low-tech fix.
Similarly, people with supporting memberships who decide they do wish to come after all, but fund themselves after the cut-off date: send us an email at i...@dwcon.org and we will confirm whether paying the upgrade to attending membership can be done at the convention. You will most likely end up with an improvised badge.
I hope that answers all questions & addresses all concerns.

And quickly following up to myself: you will need to provide proof of having purchased the ticket off the original person. Can't have lots of people turning up claiming they bought Terry's membership off him, now can we?
;-)

Jos.

No, it was me that did that, anybody else is an imposter.

Yep - obvious way for me to do that (to first order, at least) would
be for me to email members...@dwcon.org, CC-ing in the person to whom
I'm transferring the membership, on receipt of Paypal. That way the
new member can print or easily contact to request a badge name change
if they want, and the relevant people at DWCon at least nominally have
a confirmation to check it against.

I should also note that I've just cancelled my hotel booking, so there should in theory be a single room going spare too, in case that was putting anyone off. Tony
I think my brother would be interested and he is a student so I think it would be the same price however he's currently in france so I can;t confirm with him,

A bit of a bump (though the group seems very low-traffic at the mo) as we enter the last few days in which this is relevant.

I would have thought so, but they didn't put anyone from it in touch with me when I asked. I've re-emailed membership@ to see if I can clarify matters any (and so they know I'm quite willing to have my e-mail address sent to whoever would need it, in order to arrange matters.)

Hi Tony,
If you haven't already you might find posting on the discworld stamps forum
helpful http://www.discworldstamps.co.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=21 a number of people seem to have had success finding takers for memberships
they can't use themselves there.
Hopefully you'll be able to make the con another time.
Best wishes

Someone on the DWStamps forum snapped up the membership - I've e-mailed Mark (membership@) to let him know.
Incidentally, if anyone wants a post-Con Meet, I will be hosting my usual SeptemberMeet in London (at the Green Man, near Great Portland Street tube station.) All welcome. Tony
