I was offered money for a party ticket, Sheila Dikshit says
NEW DELHI: Chief minister Sheila Dikshit was recently offered money to
procure a party nomination for the assembly elections this year. This
startling revelation was made by the CM herself in an exclusive
interview to ToI on Monday.
Regretting that those who offered a bribe often went scot free,
Dikshit recalled how a man had approached her with a plastic bag which
she mistook for a packet of sweets. "He told me it had money collected
for my election. He had come to seek a ticket. I was so angry and lost
my patience. Such people should also be punished as they too are
corrupt," said the three-time CM who is poised to seek a fourth term
and is also open to a larger role at the Centre.
Insisting that she too was worried by corruption, Dikshit rejected
suggestions that the taint ofCWG scam had dented the image of her
government. She said she had replied to all the charges and that the
CAG had, in fact, cleared her government.
Geared to lead her party into the assembly polls for a fourth term,
Dikshit is clearly focused on a win. She has her poll strategy and
vision for the fourth term cut out. Her campaign will focus on
infrastructure development, with social welfare schemes and subsides
as cash transfers giving it a humane face.
