TAKING strong objection to putting up of hoardings and posters of politicians across the city, the Delhi Lokayukta has issued notices to the chief minister, transport minister, and several legislators and councilors.
“ Let notices be issued to show cause as to why an inquiry be not conducted against the said public functionaries for alleged violation of the provisions of the Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Act 2007 and contravention of Delhi Lokayukta and Uplokayukta Act,” the order said. The notices were issued against Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, transport minister Ramakant Goswami, six MLAs and 14 councillors on Wednesday.
Pulling up political parties, Lokayukta justice Manmohan Sarin observed: “ Political parties are normally vying with each other in their claims of developing Delhi into a “ First Class Metropolis” or a “ World Class City”. However, they are reluctant when it comes to joining in consensual effort to impose self regulation in the matter of putting up boards, hoardings, banners etc.”
