Namaskar.  I am also a senior citizen like you. Since you have given your address as "Godhuli", Sector 2, Dwarka, may I take the liberty of making an inquiry about this institution, which I suppose is an Old Age Home. I am a retired officer of the Govt of India. I am aged 72+. I have three children who are quite well settled in their lives. While one of them ( son) is settled abroad, another( son) is living at Chennai and the third one (daughter) is living at Mumbai. Till recently I was living a reasonably comfortable life but circumstances have completely changed with the passing away of my wife. I have to fend for myself since I do not want to leave Delhi where I have spent the best part of my life. I am presently living in a rented accommodation and am assisted by domestic helps.

 

2.  Some idea about "Godhuli" has been  given in the last issue of the "Dwarka City". It has been mentioned that there are 34 single rooms and 21 couple rooms. Is there any vacancy in the single room category ? How is life at "Godhuli" ? How is the food ? Can one go on long absence say for meeting and staying with the children ? Can one accommodate a guest for a  short stay ? Is there any  strict regimen of life at "Godhuli", such as rules  about getting up in the morning and going to bed at night, watching of TV, etc.? Can one go to a local relative at will ?

 

3.   Your replies to some of my above-mentioned queries will help me in taking a decision whether to switch over to life at "Godhuli". I shall be grateful to you for this favour. Some info on Godhuli received from Dwarka Parichay.

 

 

Foundation:

Servants of People Society  (SOPS) was started by freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai. The society run aganwari, balbari schools etc long times ago.  Later on,  the unit of SOPS formed Godhuli-Senior Citizen Home.

Old Age Home, Dwarka

The idea of having shelter for senior citizen in Dwarka was conceived in 1996 at that time  Mrs.Krishna Satyanand was the Chairperson. But it came in to existence in 2002. At present Mrs. Veena Bawa is the chairperson of Godhuli and Air Cmde. Ashok Bhardwaj is the Resident Director.

Infrastructure

Godhuli spreads  on  1 acre land and have 55 room, in other  facilities like library, playing are, gym, dinning hall, community hall, medical facility, 24 hrs. nurse availability etc. with full secured environment & provision for special care.

Accommodation

It has a capacity of around 60 people & comfortable accommodation that too for senior citizen  only.

Celebration

Godhuli celebrates all the festivals.  Outing such as visit to gardens, President’s house, tambola, movie, satsang are some other recreation activities. Even children from different schools also visit here and meet the old people and share few moments with them.

  

Affordability

Any senior citizen can register him/herself with a nominal fee of Rs.250/- and after screening through interview and verification a person has to deposit Rs.2,00,000/-(refundable) security. He/she has to bear a monthly expenses of Rs.10,000/-
