Dear All
DJB has planned for a drive to stop wastage of water within the next 10 days. Its good initiative.
It also says that Delhi has 19.65 water connections. What is Delhi's population? Rest are depending on tankers.

DJB to book you for wasting water

Mail Today/ New Delhi

BE CAUTIONS next time when your water tank overflows. DJB officials are on the prowl. To curb mismanagement and wastage of water by consumers, the Delhi Jal Board ( DJB) is all set to start its summer challan campaign soon.

As every year, the DJB has constituted an enforcement team to survey areas from where complaints about pilferage and water theft are reported, and issue corresponding challans to the residents.

“ Spreading awareness and not issuing challans is the primary role of the DJB’s enforcement department,” said DJB CEO Debashree Mukherjee.

“ The main reason behind this enforcement department is to inform people of what the correct practices are. Our inspectors won’t go only to issue challans indiscriminately. However, if people are found to be violating norms and repeating offence, they must be prepared to pay out the stipulated penalties,” said Mukherjee.

Officials said the process of challaning will start within the next 10 days. Delhi has 19.65 lakh water connections and according to estimates, around half the water that goes out of the DJB’s reservoirs never reaches consumers due to wastage, theft and pilferage. Officials said demand for water goes up by 20 per cent during the summers.

Apart from issuing challans, the teams constituted by the DJB will also carry out cleaning or flushing of underground reservoirs, plug leaks in pipelines and also check the maintenance of booster plants, among other activities.

The DJB is now expected to rope in RWAs to conduct a city wide campaign against the wastage of water.

It is definitely good move, but what about dwarka area, when dwarka people ask for more water to DJB , DJB promptly replies its responsibility of DDA, where as dwarka society only gets 10 % of water from DDA and balance 90% has to be procured through expensive private tankers then I doubt if DJB has any right to challan any one in DWARKA for wasting water.

Sir,
I doubt whether DJB has undertaken any the drive to challan the
residents for overflowing water tanks. It was to start within 10 days
of 13 May 2013. It means the drive was to start from from 24rd May
2013. No news of official visiting on site and issuing challans. I
think this drive is on Paper only. Have DJB any clear policy on
this. What will be the amount of penalty and if water is overflowing
on daily basis whether challan will be issued on daily basis or
occasionally or once in a month, Are they seeking the help of
resident association to book the culprits.
Why DJB is not installing water meter on every connection in DDA
pockets. There is no system of installation of meters and water bills
are also not being received regularly only once in a year where no
meter is installed on an fixed rates. DJB is also culprit for wastage
of water.
