I was not there at my society when this happened as I was away in another
function at NSIT organized by Dwarkalaya.
Anyhow, here is a reply from one of the MC members.
But I would like to say that when I came back from NSIT at 9.30 p.m. the
function was already over and people were having dinner. - M Jayaraman,
Hony Secretary, Abhiyan
I am so disappointed that in the name of worshipping Bhagwan, we consider
it our right to use loud speakers.
<<Parul, our apologies that the loud sound disturbed you so much. We will
be careful in the future. Thinking Aloud: How I wish if the youth of our
country could be equally sensitive about the loud music they play in their
cars, home theatre, bikes etc.>>
Why is country so inconsiderate? Why is it so normal to use extremely
displeasing levels of decibels?
<<You should take this up with the youth too. They will surely listen to
you as you are among them and they would relate better with you.>>
I have an exam tomorrow, but I have not been able to study at all. Since 4
pm today, Abhiyan has been blaring some sundar kand. I think Hanuman ji
will; be quite upset to see the disruption this causes to peace.
<<Parul, our apologies again... we will be careful next time. It's
interesting that one sound is pleasing to some ears, and displeasing to
others. Our taste, beliefs, and lifestyle have a direct impact on what we
like or dislike.>>
Here is the reason why such organizers do not realize that their volume is
causing botheration: they get local speakers, HUGE sized speakers, relevant
for a maidan. These speakers are good at throwing volume far away; but they
are not good for localised sound.
<<Thanks for pointing this out. The next time we will make sure the right
kind of music system is provided at any function held at Abhiyan.>>
Then, these organisers very cleverly position the speakers towards the open
part of the society -- which faces another society, and not their OWN
society. So their own residents are totally saved from any kind of noise
pollution.
<<Parul, you are concluding too fast. Please be patient and more tolerant
and give us the benefit of doubt.>>
<<This is ridiculous. The speakers were kept in between two blocks which
are at different directions. There is no way that both were facing another
society. I think the young lady should use some brain also while writing
like this - M Jayaraman>>
I actually went to Abhiyan, and was shocked to see that in the front part
of their OWN society, I couldn't hear anything. But, I, who lives next
door, couldn't study at all.
<<So, Parul, when you visited Abhiyan, did you not talk to the right person
about reducing the sound? Talking to just anyone wouldn't help. I hope you
tried to find out who the organizer was and you also tried to speak to the
organizer directly. Lamenting in front of security guards or randomly to
anyone usually doesn't help in any situation.>>
I am so, so ashamed that we live in a culture where it is SO normal to
cause noise pollution like this.
<<Do something about it mindfully and don't just complain in frustration. I
hope you will take this advice in the right spirit.>>
I even went to the organisers and requested to them to lower the volume,
but they only made faces, remarking, "yahan toh kuch bhi karna mushkil
hai". They even lied, "we are going to be done in 15 minutes". Such a
typical, indian-style lie. Why do it? So sad.
<<Are you sure you spoke to the organizers? If you did, and clearly that
has not helped, then, we will make sure we keep the sound during any
function as less as possible. Apologies again.>>
And then when I returned -- the volume became more blaring. It has been an
hour since, and it's still going on.
<<You should have visited Abhiyan again and explained more convincingly. It
is not necessary that every problem will resolve in one and single
attempt. :)>>
I don't know what to say about my exams. I am sure none of their kids have
an exam tomorrow. And it DOESN't matter whether there is an exam or not.
Any right minded person does not want to hear unaesthetic blaring sound
into their bedroom. Totally disrespectful, highly inconsiderate, and deeply
selfish and irresponsible behavior -- in the name of God.
<<Unaesthetic sound? Are you not being careless and too impatient here?
What is aesthetic sound in your perspective Parul? Hollywood music?
Bollywood music? Have you studied the scriptures? Do you know why these
religious activities are prescribed in today's age? Your opinion and
patience level will see a big change if make scriptures study a part of
your daily regime.>>
The Abhiyan Society Chairman --- will you please speak up?
<<This email is from a member of Abhiyan.>>
I am all for satsangs. I think they are a wonderful way to bring people
together. Maybe learn something from folks like Isha Foundation, who do it
in such a responsible and considerate and quiet way.
<<Parul, before anyone else learns anything from Isha Foundation--which
claims to fix mind and body level irregularities through their
Kriya--please consider doing their Kriya do improve your tolerance and
patience. It will help you in a big way, and in every area of your life.>>
Waiting to hear your thoughts,
Parul

There is a clear direction from the Court. You cannot have
loudspeakers blasting after 10pm. If persuation fails, please call
100. Let them take corrective actions.
Request -Please do bhajan and keertans - but ensure it is confined to
the room/your area only. And why do we have this bizzare notion that
unless and until we blast our loudspeaker and let the whole world
know that we are doing bhajan and keertans - that it is not a
successful event. Believe me God can hear even a whisper. So it is
not at all necessary to blast the loudspeaker so as to disturb
everyone in the vicinity. We have to be senstive and considerate
towards others.
Hope all our learned friends will ensure peace in our surroundings
and allow all age groups to do their work peacefully.
Regards,
Sudha
