Since the first Dublin GTUG meeting last month, there have been
several developments:
1. We have three organisers: Eoin Bailey, Brian Farrell, Sean Murphy.
Eoin is a PhD student at UCD Dublin, he also develops websites both as
a consultant and as ventures. He is sad to see the departure of Google
Wave but he could never really see its point anyway.
Brian is Launching an Irish start-up on using Google App Engine,
extensively using Wave and interested in all things Android, including
getting to know the Irish Android development community.
Sean is a Senior Research Fellow in the School of Computer Science and
Informatics in UCD. He's interested in web and mobile applications in
general, but mashups are a particular focus of his right now. To this
end, understanding the capabilities of the numerous APIs provided by
Google is extremely useful. He's also keen to see how these can be
integrated into student projects.
2. Dublin GTUG is official! We are a registered GTUG.
3. A schedule has been agreed upon based on feedback from the initial
meeting: GTUG meetings will take place on the last Tuesday of every
month, kicking-off at 18:30. for the foreseeable future the meetings
will take place at Google's Dublin offices.
4. Google have agreed to provide hot food, such as pizzas, at the
events. We will also be allowed to raid the mini-kitchens around the
offices for coffee, snacks, and cans of coke/7up/whatever is there.
5. A meeting is going ahead this month: Tuesday 31st August, 18:30,
Google offices. Tell all your friends!
Agenda for the meeting:
18:30-18:45: Pizza and chat
18:45-19:25: Vishal Vatsa: Android Scripting Environment, talk,
demonstration, and Q&A
19:25-19:35: Coffee break and chat
19:35-19:45: Sean Murphy: An overview of Google technologies and API
19:45-to close: Discussion on Google technologies that interest the
group, suggestions on topics, meeting format...
Post-meeting beers: The Schoolhouse Bar
Anyone who wants to attend does need to be signed up to the group and
add your name to a spreadsheet (the link for that will be sent out
next week) at the latest the day before the meeting, this is to ensure
your name is on the list to get into Google.
As the meetings develop we expect to solidify a format but we hope
everyone will participate, some of you will
volunteer to give talks, and if you have any suggestions let us know.
