I  deal with it the same way you do. I tell my users to use PASV mode.

Subject:  [FW1] FTP - With Or Without PASV Mode

I am using CheckPoint Firewall-1 V3.0B 3064 on Windows NT. Even with the
firewall configuration correct, my users cannot use standard FTP
(without PASV mode) reliably. In other words it works very
intermittently. Because of this, we have required our users to use PASV
mode FTP, but not all applications have this capability (i.e. FrontPage
and other web development apps). Because of this, I am receiving
pressure to resolve this issue. I have already ran this through
CheckPoint with no confirmation from them that this is a reported
problem nor have I got any resolution. The product is suppose to support
standard FTP dynamically, but it is not even close to reliable.

My question is general. Do you have the same problem and/or do you force
your users to use PASV mode FTP. I am just trying to get a consensus to
determine if I am alone here or are others dealing with the same problem
and living with it.

Thanks in advance for any input.
