Hi Folks:
How was last Sunday's DC?
Was it jamming?
During last week I passed thru Austin, TX, I was walking downtown and
heard drumming so what do you think I did?
Of course I followed my ear to where the folks were!!
All the drums were like 'drum set types' beaten with drum sticks and
hand combination (or like the 'blue men' drums). First time I heard
these. It appeared to be like a class. There were several different
drums yet there was not much sound variety.
I prefer our group drumming,.
Suggestion: As we drum, pay attention to the "base or main beat"
which sets the rhythm for that 'tune' and support or harmonize with
that beat. How do you do that? Listen to your drum (is your drum
following the main beat or harmonizing with the main beat?). I know
sometimes it takes a little time to 'catch' the rhythm, beat softly
until you do.
By the way I have been talking with some folks about setting up drum
lessons, I will post info after I find out more. If you have an
interest, send me a reply that you have an interest.
If anyone is interested in learning middle eastern percussion on
darbuka and framedrum, I am qualified to teach those, and I'll offer a
drum circle discount that is different than my regular classes.
I know several people who teach African ensemble percussion. You may
want to contact the Valley Conservatory, I think they specialize in
music from the African diaspora.

Dave, My name is Jeff & I met you maybe two or three weeks ago at the DC. I would be interested in learning some middle eastern technique. I'm currently schooled in Afro-cuban drumming and would love the opportunity to expand my knowledge. Let's see if we can coordinate our schedules and make some noise.

I'm going to be out of town from July 25 to August 10, but I'd be glad
to do some lessons when I get back. The price for a private (one
person) lesson would be $25 if I go to you and $20 if you come to me.
$14 per person for semi-private lessons. I have loaner drums if anyone
wants to try out the darbuka before purchasing one.
