It's going to get some flickr and some upcoming events attention, but
have you guys got any suggestions as to what might be done to improve
this ?

I think it needs a bit more - I like the layout - I think it needs
some twiddly bits.

If I get a chance I will try doa psd with some twiddly bits.

That'd be awesome :). I'm no good at "twiddly bits", so I avoid doing
them, because I tend to mess everything up horribly when I attempt to.
It's still having some bits and pieces done to it (it now has a
changed layout because I had to fit events in).

Hopefully we should have this stuff on a live server on the tubes in
the next couple of days, at which point we'll be able to get a whole
bunch more feedback :).

just added a file - if you have some html of this page I would find it
easier. Let me know what you think. If it's going down the right road
I will try and do a bit more.

++ for "going down the right road" - nice.

Definitely in the right direction - though my base layout changed a
little bit since the last time, because I had to fit more stuff in.

I've done my best to take your ideas re: colouring in though, but it
doesn't look quite as good in the new layout. Where does the little
bird for twitter come from ? Is it CC licensed ?

You'll be able to get at the HTML when we get it up and running in the
staging environment - I'm guessing monday (unless you're happy running
git, in which case let me know, and I'll get you access to the
project.)

Having said that, I just tried it on my iPod Touch, and it looks
brilliant there.

the little bird was off the internet:
http://images.google.co.uk/images?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&hs=Rrz&q=twitter+bird&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&resnum=1&ct=title

seems like a number of people are using it!

I'd like to have a go at tweaking the css, increasing padding etc, it looks
a bit 'squashed'. How do I do this without conflicting with what anyone else
is doing?

There's lots of useful information there! It would be nice to have a few
pics.

Hi,

Best you and Matt have a chat about that, as he's the only one looking
at it at the moment !

I'm going to stick stuff from the flickr pool in, once we get a few
more pictures ...

Alternatively, maybe I could just implement a style switcher and
implement designs from any of dorsets finest who want in ?

I have managed to check it out with git - needs putty and plink to
work properly. The ssh key need to be given a bit of a tap so the the
git software knows it can connect.

If I run this on apache and know that python is intalled will it just
work? Probably needs mod_python or something I guess

In terms of css my time can be a bit limited during the week so any
help is welcome.

have installed django and got a virtual host setup - where are the
django settings?

Hi, it's looking really good Mark.

But I agree it needs some css formatting as it all looks a bit messy
and kind of flows into each other at the moment.

A theme switcher would be interesting, but I'm interested to see what
Matt / Jane come up with.

Mark Ng

Yeah, it still needs some tidying up, especially after I shoved more
information into it.

To add to that, I was considering adding geocoding and maps in there
somehow (particularly for the events, but less specifically anything
that it GeoRSS or I can grab a place name from the content). That
might be a step too far though :P !

I quite like the idea of a stylesheet switcher, if we already have two
people interested in styling it up, but even more so if we get a
couple more people interested. It's a chance for more than one
designer in dorset to show off their skills on the portal - it might
also give us a chance to draw out some of the agencies that we haven't
spoken to yet.

Dear all

I'm thinking of Dorchester (Tom Browns) on Thursday August 14th or
Wednesday August 20th for the next Dorset Digital pub evening.

How is everyone fixed for either date?

Also - apologies that the dorset digital site is down - seems to been
have been put out of kilter by the dotdorset developments. We / I might
retire the Dorset Digital site anyhow - my intentions were always to do
something like dot dorset time permitting - unless we come up with a
different use? Code libraries etc?

Let me know you're thoughts and i'll put it on Upcoming...

Cool ! I'm really keen on that (except that the h1 and the img at the
top clash in safari - anywhere else ?). I'm quite keen on the
em-based grid you have too. I used to build css that way until all the
designers I worked with kept throwing fits about using em's for
distance, and I gave up :P.

My HTML is now valid, unfortunately the stuff it pulls in via RSS
isn't :/ I'm not sure if I want to run tidy on it as it comes in or
something like that (the cpu and speed cost of that could eventually
get large).

Are all of the changes you've made to the HTML adding the content even
and adding the classes to the boxes ? If so I'll make those changes
tomorrow (unless you want to do a git pull and fix up the django
templates ;) ). If I get time, I'll pop your changes into the
original classes, as I'd rather try and avoid using as many
presentational class names as I can (particularly if we go with this
style switcher idea).

I checked my code in IE today, and it's a bit broken - did you get a
chance to see what yours looked like in IE (it's a pain to start up IE
on my mac, so I'll leave it until tomorrow if you haven't).

Little bits and pieces aside, Bravo !!

I have done no testing on this - it shouldn't take too much to fix in
ie and safari though - I will try to have a look at it today!

I didn't make too many changes to the html as you say added the even
and class names to the boxes - also tidied up the google groups feed
html - removed brs and and added ps. Also changed the h4s on the del
feed to h3 to match the other stuff.
