Error ocurred trying to search results in the current index

Is anyone familiar with this error?  Have any suggestions?

After further investigation, it appears that the event structure is no longer serving content.   If he index is corrupt, is the a solution without having to restart the web server?

I have tried to reindex from the CMS maintenance tab but it did not seem to work.
