and thought about this project. It seems like if you don't need
realtime transmission of the footage another approach would be to
build something that could withstand the fall and be easily
retrievable. Retrieval approaches could be low tech like a fishing
line that you could pull the camera back up with. On the
over-engineered end of the spectrum you could have some sort of
arduino blimp thing that would inflate post impact.
