Hi all,

I'm looking to get some SMT assembly done on around 100 10cm x 10cm PCBs. I'm also hoping to go with a local shop, but all the local places I've been able to find so far want $900 per board at minimum. That's way too expensive for me. Would any of you happen to know of a place where I can get these done for less? I did find a guy in Canada offering assembly for around $75 per board, but (like I said) I'd rather deal with someone more local if at all possible.

Thanks,

Ryan

Who have you talked to?  What about smtnw or screaming circuits?

Yeah, we used SMT NW in Tigard by the mall, Paul has used them too. They did our 15 boards quite reasonably (under $75/ea), of course board size and complexity factor in, but you can't beat having the shop local and accessible! There are several board stuffing companies that are local, some can be cheaper if you aren't doing smt, also, many of us can do simple smt pretty easily too.
(:
Just some thoughts!

Pleasantly,

I've also used SMT NW and will continue to do so ;-)

Another thought, if you bump your run up to 200 you should be able to command a sub-$10 price, which may justify the larger run! It gets dramatically cheaper, especially if you have your boards panelized with fiducials, and all your components on reels!

There is a company here in Salem that does SMT:

I don't know how much they charge.

Thanks for the leads, guys. I've contacted SMT NW and am in the process of contacting Hi-Tek Electronics as well. I did get a preliminary quote from Screaming Circuits, but that was for a 32 card run. I'll check them out again with the higher quantity.

I've also given some thought to renting some SMT equipment and hiring some people with the skills necessary, but that sounds like it might be more hassle than its worth.

Ryan,

You might try to get a quote from Cascade Systems Technology in Hillsboro.  I don't know how small of runs they will do but I hear they have beaten quotes from Chinese companies.

I have an APE SMD 2000m, I would be willing to do the work, if I can get half upfront to purchase an SMD pick and place. Just quote me the cheapest price you find, and how long they estimate it takes.
