If you are like me and pay attention to art and robotics you have probably been hearing a lot about the Arduino micro-controller platform and all of the cool things that people are doing with it. In some circles this platform has almost developed a cult like following.

Well this sunday you can build your own.

DorkbotPDX has put together a cost effective arduino kit ($6) and an equally inexpensive programmer ($9) and this sunday from 5-8PM  at PNCA (1240 NW Johnson -- Room 205 ) we will help you put yours together.

The cost of the seminar is $15 and is limited to the quantities we have on hand (25-30) so if you want to make sure that you get a spot you can prepay for your kit (paypal this address) or email me to RSVP.

You will need to bring a laptop, a usb cable, a soldering iron (10-20 watt pencil type) and a pair of dikes (wire cutters).

See you there.

First of all I was really happy that so many people showed up and got
as far into their construction as they did.

27 people and only 1 dead board.

Now I know that getting all of that done in under 3 hours was a little
ambitious. (The pacing was initially based on the photo session at http://www.flickr.com/photos/7175086@N05/sets/72157604783725339/
which took 20 minutes from start to finish)

For those of you who were unable to finish the cable, Jacob Helwig has
provided a clear picture of a working cable at

<img src=http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2386/2485841122_d52df893c4.jpg?v=0

He also provided this pinout sumary .

Pins -> USB
1 -> 2 (Rx)
2 -> 1 (Tx)
3 -> 7 (+5V)
4 -> 4 (Reset)
5 -> 3 (Ground)

Pin 1 is on the bottom (the side of the programmer with the leds --
red wire in jacob's picture) on both ends.

I am looking to have a second session for software as soon as I can
get a room scheduled (this sunday or some sunday soon). In the mean
time you can download the software (http://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Software
) and poke around at the main site (http://www.arduino.cc/). I will
also be at the bi-weekly dorkbot meeting at the Lucky Lab NW tomorrow
between 7 and 10 and will bring a soldering iron if anyone gets stuck
or wants to finish up their.

You can also email me if you need anything.

For those of you who cant make this email me and I will see what I can do about and will keep you in my contacts for the next workshop.

If you are like me and pay attention to art and robotics you have probably been hearing a lot about the Arduino micro-controller platform and all of the cool things that people are doing with it. In some circles this platform has almost developed a cult like following.

DorkbotPDX would like to invite you to drink the cool-aid.

So.... If you missed the last induction and haven't gotten your Arduino yet, this sunday you can build your own.

DorkbotPDX has put together a cost effective arduino kit ($8) and an equally inexpensive programmer ($10) and this sunday from 2 to 6 PM  at PNCA (1240 NW Johnson -- Room 205 ) we will help you put yours together.

The cost of the seminar is $25 and is limited to the quantities we have on hand (25-30) so if you want to make sure that you get a spot you can prepay for your kit (paypal this address) or email me to RSVP.

You will need to bring a laptop, a usb cable, a soldering iron (10-20 watt pencil type) and a pair of dikes (wire cutters). We will spend the first 2 hours putting the kit together and then after taking a short break we will load the software on your computers and use it to program your micro-controller.

See you there.

Don.
