Subject: ChickTech microcontroller workshop needs a team! (men and women)

ChickTech (http://www.chicktech.org/ ) is a local non-profit that creates opportunities to involve more girls and women in technology. We have a weekend event coming up in January that will be a hands-on experience for 100 high school girls-- seven workshops over two days. One of those workshops will focus on microcontrollers, possibly in the form of a wearable accessory-- the LilyPad Arduino has caught our eye, but we are open to other ideas!

We are putting together a team for the microcontroller workshop, and thought some of you might want to join in. Having attended one of your meetings recently, you seem like the perfect resource for this!  Both women and men are welcome, although we'd love to be 50/50! :)

We'd like help with recruiting team members, planning the workshop, and teaching it as well as the follow-ups. The workshop will be 10 hours-- the same girls will remain in one workshop all weekend-- with five two-hour follow-ups over the next year. There's a budget for materials, and we do have a 20% discount from sparkfun, although that doesn't lock us in to buying something from them of course. At the end of the weekend in January there will be a "tech show" where the girls can show off what they made.

We're setting the bar high for these workshops and want to create genuinely fun and engaging experiences that broaden these girls' horizons. We'd love your help!  We'd like to set up an initial team meeting in the next week or so and have a general project idea by September 15th.

Thank you!!
Janice
