Just a little heads up for all of you. I've been working on getting
network play up and running and as of today it works. I'm currently
tweaking some of the code and should be pushing these changes up to
the code repository soon. I'll post once I have an .apk ready to
download with this update as well as some instructions to play
online. I'll even be hosting a few game servers for people to connect
to.

We're going live!

PrBoom4Android 1.2.5-beta is out and network multiplayer is included.
http://prboom4android.googlecode.com/files/PrBoom4Android_1.2.5-beta.apk

In order to play multiplayer games, you will need to have a server up
and running. At the moment I have 3 game servers running using the
prboom-game-server.
To connect to a server you will need to use the "Extra Arguments" text
box and enter the following

-net <server_address>[:port]
replace server address with the address that the server is running on.
If the server is running on a different port than the default one of
5030. you can specify that using :port where port is the port number.

If you want to try out multiplayer but aren't running a server, feel
free to connect to one of the following using the commands below.

-net scheffsblend.dyndns-ip.com:5030
-net scheffsblend.dyndns-ip.com:5031
-net scheffsblend.dyndns-ip.com:5032

The first is a 2-player server, the second a 3 player server and the
last one is a 4 player server. All these servers are running
FreeDM.wad so you will need that to play. Luckily it is completely
free and you can download through the updated PrBoom4Android or
directly at http://prboom4android.googlecode.com/files/freedm.wad.gz

-net scheffsblend.dyndns-ip.com:6030
-net scheffsblend.dyndns-ip.com:6031
-net scheffsblend.dyndns-ip.com:6032

I've also added 3 other game servers which are running Ultimate Doom
co-op levels. You WILL need to have a copy of ultimate doom,
doom.wad, in order to play on these servers.

That should at least get some of you started. I'm not sure if prboom-
game-server is available for Windows, but I know it is available for
linux (since that is what I am running these game servers on).

Enjoy and use this thread to post about this latest update!

You will need to run a server on a PC since PrBoom4Android only has
client capabilities at this time. I currently use prboom-game-server
on a PC running Ubuntu 11.10. There may be ports for other systems
such as Windows or Mac OSX.

Will PrboomForAndroid have built-in server?

I do not see this happening anytime in the foreseeable future. What
may be a better solution would be to create a central server that
connects clients together. If there is an open slot, the client will
join that match. If not, then the master server would start a new
game, connect the client to that and wait for others to join. This
will take a little bit of work but may offer a better solution than
implementing a server in the PrBoom4Android code. I think that would
open up a whole other can of worms.
