Good Evening Everybody,

As Tam mentioned, we’re opening up our house at 1320 17th St in West Des Moines, Iowa, for a night of game-playing this Friday, October 30th.  Come on over after the kids have trick-or-treated.

There will mostly likely be a Dalmuti table, with other tables and TV trays for whatever other games decide to show up.  Bring along your favorite board or card games!  Our Wii will also be available, so bring along your favorite games and controllers.

Those with laptops are welcome to bring their computers to plug into our wireless home network.

We will serve a few snacks along with some wine and 43 liquor.  Anything else it's "BYOB."

Directions:  Our address is 1320 17th St in West Des Moines (phone number is 224-0865).

  • On I-235 take the 22nd St exit then turn south onto 22nd.
  • Turn left/east onto Prospect St just past the freeway.
  • Take Prospect to 20th St (T-intersection) and turn left/north onto 20th.
  • Smile and wave at the Roth's as 20th curves into Center.
  • Keep driving on Center until you reach 17th St (T-intersection).
  • Turn right/south.  We are the third house down on the right/west side of 17th.

The Des Moines Art Center will have their Winter open house on Sunday Dec. 6, from 12-4. There will be a Dr. Suess theme. They have asked me to be a guest reader for a half hour. I get to pick the book and come in a costume. They would also appreciate anyone else in child-friendly Suess-type costumes to greet visitors or roam around to interact.

Does anyone have some suggestions on what I could wear and read?  Not the Cat in the Hat since I don't want to be furry. I like "Green Eggs and Ham" since I am a SAM but a costume idea eludes me. I really admired the steampunk Dr. Suess-inspired costumes in "Wicked."  I have a Victorian dress that could be adapted?

If anyone else would like to help out, please contact Paula for more information.

Costumes for the Seven Lady Godivas would be quite simple.

More seriously, I think that The Lorax is still the best of all the Seusses, and it might be better to read a story that all the kids don't already know by heart.  Other suggestions would be If I Ran The Zoo, The Sneetches and Other Stories (you could stop wherever, which may be a plus) and I Had Trouble Getting To Solla Sollew.

Josh- I believe that she specified "child-friendly" not "Overly
child-friendly, legally jeapordous." And I mean Sarah's great looking
and all, but kids that age are easily traumatized by seeing any adult
nekkid, no matter how attractive objectively or subjectively. I'm
going to have to put Michael in therapy after this afternoon when he
walked into my mom's room because she said "Come in" when she really,
Really, REALLY shouldn't have. The look on his face was priceless- I
didn't know his eyebrows could go that far north.

Seriously- Bartholmew Cubbins is easy, as is the kid from McElligot's
Pond/Pool. I even have a fishing rod you could borrow for that.

I wish I had time to build a Yertle the Turtle.
