My google-fu was failing me last night, so I’m hoping someone can help… are there any D&D-like (d20?) historical civil war era set RPGs? I found lots of computer games and some miniature ones, but none that were regular role playing.

In addition, I was trying to sort out open source gaming license/d20 and was kind of getting myself confused. Granted, it could have been the late hour, or the con crud I brought back from ICON, but I also figured we would have excellent resources within the group itself.

Can I bend someone’s ear about OSL/D20, because I figured when I was working on my latest WIP and one of my characters thought “How did he do that?” and my snarky author reply was “he rolled a d20” that perhaps I was onto something. *smiles*

Many many thanks!!!!!!
Mary

To be honest, I don't know of one, and I've been deeply involved in
the RPG world since the mid-'80s. You could use TSR's old _Boot Hill_
Wild West, or _GURPS Wild West,_ if you wanted a straight historical
campaign; _Deadlands_ is set in _a_ Civil War, but one in a history
taht's become very strange.

Catch me after the 3rd when I'm home and at my own 'puter, and I'll go
into more detail.

Thanks, Eric. No rush. I was thinking that I'd probably end up building
something based on the world I'm creating with this novel. I guessed when my
authorial reply to a character was "you rolled a d20" that something along
those lines would be happening. Plus Cory Doctow is right about authors
needing to do more than just sell books. *grins* I thought it might be fun
anyway, but I was getting very lost in the Open License/d20 type stuff.

I do think it's a bit odd though. Alt. History isn't a huge genre, but it is
a nice slice of the speculative fiction pie. I think it'd make for very
fertile RPG territory.

Thanks,
Mary
