For those of you who couldn't make the first meeting, you missed out on some tasty beer and pizza courtesy of the Positive Digital Solutions guys (thanks!) , interesting discussions of template caching, database usage, and structuring settings.py to accomodate for production/development ala' rails. I bounced early, so everyone else please tell us what else came up.
Regarding the format for the future, I generally explained how SD Ruby goes about it and everyone seemed to like the idea. The format would be;
1 meeting a month, at a central location (based upon attendance, this was closer to the UCSD area), with 2 presentations (preferably 1 introductory/intermediate, 1 advanced), after which those who were up for it would retreat to somewhere with tasty beer and appetizers to hang out.
I personally like Mondays and Wednesdays, as Tues. and Thursdays are frequently used up by other organizations. So I propose the last monday of the month as a regular meeting night.
With regards to space for presentations, if we could continue to follow on the heels of SD Ruby and get access to UCSD, I think that would be ideal, as it is company/industry agnostic, central, has good facilities, and very accessible. If anyone has connections to the folks at UCSD, it would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks again to everyone who came out, I think this will be a great resource and community for all of us.

Make that Tuesday morning--we ended up snowed in up at Lake Tahoe, and didn't get back into town until late Monday night, at which point I got to stay up til the wee hours getting caught up @ work. Bleah.

Sounds like I missed a great kickoff meeting!
I'm generally happy with the sdruby format, with Mondays, and with hosting @ UCSD, though I understand the parking situation there can be painful sometimes. The sdruby guys also do a hackfest offset from their meeting by two weeks--any interest in doing something like that?

Hi everyone,
My name is Alex Clemesha, I wasn't able to make it to the
first meeting, but I definitely want to be there for future meetings.
I do happen to work at UCSD, as well as a partner of mine,
Dorian Raymer, who is also interested in going to group meetings.
I wonder if there is something specific me or Dorian can do to
possibly help out getting somewhere to meet at UCSD?
Please reply with any specifics concerning setting up
a meeting place on campus at UCSD.
