I'm new to Python and Django. I will be at the PyCon 2008. I'm
thinking about staying after the talks for the Django Sprint, but I'm
not sure what I can contribute... any suggestion?

Excellent! I was in a similar boat as you at last year's PyCon. I was
relatively new to Python/Django and I decided that PyCon would be a
good place begin understanding the community and learning more. As it
turned out I came out a TON more knowledge and extremely eager to get
rolling with many new ideas that I took away. It is good to see someone
else in this same position. You will have a blast.

To answer your question about the sprints (in which I did not attend
last year, due to time) you should check out the SprintIdeas [1] page
on the wiki. It will give you about all the information you need. Make
sure to put your name on the SprintPyCon2008 [2] wiki page.

I look forward to seeing you at PyCon this year!

On top of Brian's good suggestion: something new at the sprints this
year are sprint "introductions" on Sunday. Each sprint coach -- for
Django that's me -- will be giving a tutorial to help people get
started contributing to Django.

I'll probably spend somewhere from 30-45 minutes all-told; I'll start
with the logistical aspects of contributing to Django -- where to get
the code, how to create and test patches, etc -- and then move into
talking about Django internals and design stuff. The idea is to help
people *exactly like you* get a leg up on helping out. From there,
there'll be lots of experienced Python/Django folks around, and it's
always an extremely friendly crowd.

It'll be a blast -- we'll be happy to have you there!

Coaching for newbies is a great idea!

Jacob, do you think it'll be possible to set up a wiki page after
Pycon with the all things you'll present at that introduction session?
So that would also benefit those who could not attend the conference.

Cheers,

Julien

Indeed - the PyCon organizers came up with the idea, and it's a great one.

At the very least I'll post my slides and notes online; I imagine that
someone in the audience would be able to take notes as well. I'll also
look into audio/video recording, but I'm not sure if we'll be set up
for that.
