I'm starting a GPL freelancer-specific project management
application.

I'm going to start coding myself but would like to know if there are
any guys/gals who are interested in jumping on this ride.

I know a couple people who need something like this and Basecamp isn't
filling the void for them. Plus, well... I'd rather have a Django/
Python Alternative.

Hi Joshuajonah,

I have some Python/Django skills (actually I'm learning Django) and I
want to be part of a Django project. What do I have to do?
Thanks.

I'm interested, but not in direct participation right now.

I am working on group accounting or social-economic relationships in
Django.

I'm currently focused on Pinax (aka Django Hotclub of France):
http://code.google.com/p/django-hotclub/

I intend to add several types of economic relationships to Pinax,
including accounting for loosely organized joint ventures like
software projects. Might work well with your goals.

Pinax intends to create a software developer's edition in a month or
so. Not specifically for designers, but some designers participate in
the project.

You might want to consider building your project on Pinax. Might give
you a lot of social features immediately. (Or like all such
frameworks, might give you more than you want...)

Seems like a cool project, I think your right though, it might be a
little too much for this, I want to keep this as clean and extendable as
possible. Is it possible to use parts of pinax? or is it too coupled for
that?

Eventually you can use parts of pinax, but it's still pretty new.
People are just now starting to use it selectively, so no documented
how-to-do-its yet. And it will probably need some changes for
selective use. But it's one of the goals of the project.

I am using Basecamp, but if you can develop an opensource alternative
with Django that:

1. I can have installed/running on my server with a SVN co + python
setup.py install + settings + restart apache
2. provide the same set of features
3. the same level of usability
4. support import form basecamp XML

I am your early adopter/tester and worshipper.
