Hi list,

With the official start of Google Summer of Code 2007 today, I would
like to introduce myself as one of the lucky whose idea was accepted
[1]. My mentor is James Bennett [2].

In the following three months I'll work on the integration of package
management functionality into Django core by using the distutils and
setuptools modules. Additionally I want to build a public application
repository website with standard community features (nicely
implemented by the django-* apps) with bindings to the CheeseShop/
PyPI, Python's central software repository.

The general goal is to make it easier to package Django apps and
projects and to distribute/deploy them with more elegance. A central
application repository could really help a lot of the django-users,
whatever expertise they have, by simplifying the way django apps are
shared at the moment.

Please check out my full proposal [3] and tell me what you think.

Best,
Jannis
