Hey folks,

Just wanted to let everyone know that I built a site over the break
with a friend.

Check out http://repsheet.com/ it's pretty cool. But still lacking in
many ways, mainly it's just Chicago.

I was thinking I could talk about it if folks are interested, it's my
first experience with GeoDjango. Pretty amazing stuff.

Also conceived of this as an open source project since the beginning,
but since it was created off the cuff and there's not anything
pluggable in it. Would love to talk design and how to grow this thing
if anyone that might be interested. Let me know your thoughts,
thanks.

See you on friday,

Milan

Please do! We're considering using GeoDjango here at the Onion (to
improve Decider), so I'd love to hear how things went for you.

Sounds good. I thought for sure Decider was on the GeoDjango tip!

We're aggressively tracking upstream Django against our local branch,
but we aren't using the GeoDjango features yet. It'll be nice to
graduate from simple bounding boxes to proper polygons and whatnot.

Very cool. The site is similar to something the NY Times did(also
with Geo Django). Out of curiosity where are you pulling this data
from?

Actually we explain that in the about page ... http://repsheet.com/about/ .

But yea the idea came from NYTimes and the data is from

http://egov.cityofchicago.org/city/webportal/portalContentItemAction.do?BV_SessionID=@@@@1994737478.1229818394@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccdadefmkjhhmicefecelldffhdfhk.0&contentOID=536900083&contenTypeName=COC_EDITORIAL&topChannelName=SubAgency&blockName=Geographic+Information+Systems%2FInteractive+Maps%2FI+Want+To&context=dept&channelId=0&programId=0&entityName=Geographic+Information+Systems&deptMainCategoryOID=-536886491

I'd like to open source it after we meet possibly as a django-chicago
thang if folks are interested. I didn't put much design into the code
and I think for it to grow properly (easily add more data / cover more
cities) it will need a some redesigning.

Nice! And, as a designer, I think the design is good, too.

I assume you already know about the NetSquared Mashup challenge, and
this is why you are doing this. If you aren't aware of it, they are
opening up submissions on February 1st, and giving away $100,000.
Deets here: http://www.netsquared.org/challenges/n2y3/mashupchallenge

Hey David, never heard of this challenge ... thanks for the tip!!
Will definitely check it out.

Also glad the design doesn't make you sick. Brad whipped up some
comps, so props to him, I did the css. We can use help on it if you
have any spare time or are interested.
