Hello fellow keyboard builders,

I have built a 88-key (graded hammer action) velocity sensitive midi
master controller.

I used a Fatar keybed, an AVR microcontroller (Teensy++ dev board) and
a custom designed breakout board. The breakout board is basically just
the connectors for the key matrix (2 x 20pin) and 3 x 74LS138
addressed using 5 bits for multiplexing. So in total you need 5 + 8
bits on the microcontroller.

I would absolutely LOVE to open source the hardware and software.
Ideally as a shield for Arduion (and clones) so everyone could easily
use it in their own project. I don't even think there really is a key
matrix shield at the moment..?

I have made a single sided (etched) PCB using Eagle but I as I said I
would really like to make a nice double sided Arduino shield with smd
components...

I wonder if there's anyone on this list there would be interested in
A. Using this in their own projects and B. Help me design and fab a
nice PCB using the schematics I have...

Cheers,
Albin

My advice to you is to publish what you have to github.

I know I'll take a look and help, I know others will too.

Once my wiki access is granted I'll start linking up and documenting all these projects.

THANK YOU for wanting to open source your design!  Competition and choice will help us all succeed.

I have a feeling that we're about to hit second gear.  Hold on folks, things are about to get interesting!

I would be very down to use this sort of thing in my projects, though
I don't know much about PCB design...

Red, you should already have wiki access; I added several people
yesterday; if you're on this list, you already have access:

drewm1980 since 23 Apr 2008, 02:18 GMT+0200 (1393 days ago)
MusicScienceGuy since 3 Jun 2008, 02:42 GMT+0200 (1352 days ago)
teletrev since 3 Jun 2008, 21:13 GMT+0200 (1351 days ago)
Paul Vandervoort since 3 Jun 2008, 21:14 GMT+0200 (1351 days ago)
William Croft since 3 Jun 2008, 21:14 GMT+0200 (1351 days ago)
harperjohn since 15 Jul 2008, 22:35 GMT+0200 (1309 days ago)
roy pertchik since 17 Nov 2009, 19:59 GMT+0100 (819 days ago)
reddavies since 14 Feb 2012, 09:59 GMT+0100 (1 day ago)
RodrigoArrey since 14 Feb 2012, 09:59 GMT+0100 (1 day ago)

marteljnr since 14 Feb 2012, 10:00 GMT+0100 (1 day ago)

If you're not on there and want to be, make sure I know. Signup for
the wiki has been buggy in the past, not to mention sometimes it takes
me a while to notice that there are people in the queue.

I went here :

> Also see the DIY Keyboard Google Code Repository and Wiki: http://code.google.com/p/diykeyboard/

to find the wiki.

The link to the wiki on that page goes here :

http://diykeyboard.org/

Which is a webpage containing flowers and Kanji.

Can this be fixed or the link to the wiki be posted?

Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom, I seem to have accidentally let the diykeyboard.org domain
name expire. From the flowers and kanjii I can only assume that it
got picked up by a domain name squatter. The wiki can still be
accessed here:

http://diykeyboard.wikidot.com/

Note, diykeyboard.com is actually still available; if someone wants
to register it and re-point it to the wiki they will have my blessing.
I will get back to keyboards one day, but at this stage in my life my
career is all-consuming. I finally got my dream job working on a new
kind of wind power, and it may only last a few years, so I'm giving it
everything.

I'm very interested. I have a Clavinova with a half-dead mainboard (midi still works) that i would like to upgrade.

Hi William,

I couldn't figure out how to add a sticky, but I did figure out how to
make you and a few others managers.

Cheers,
Andrew
