Hi all,

I have been reading the group discussions here, for quite a time and
must admit that I can see some real connoisseurs of synthetic biology
coming out of the group. I think my intellectual abilities restrict me
somehow from commenting and joining the discussion, please excuse me
for that.

I was wondering how mobile applications could help in the growth and
development of DIYbio community.

p.s: I am not an app developer, but a Medical student by profession.

By now I have already browsed through "Gene Slicer" and The "Lazy
Scientist", but I assume the required list of Apps will be much longer
given the complexity of the work we deal with. What would be your
ideal DIYbio app?

I think we need some way to share actual work that is done.  The mailing list works well for communicating, but it is not practical to have to check everyones blog to see what is up.

I'd second that...tools to enhance / enable collaboration would be
great.

Challenges that may need solutions are sharing plots and sharing
imagery. Much like coders that have nice forums to share code, a
forum with the
ability to insert imagery and time series or other data would be
great.

@medminus9... from a mobile perspective it would be great to be able
to snap a picture of say a gel with my cell phone and then share it.
Tools exist for this basic idea (think google+, tumblr, facebook...) I
know, but we have different needs and uses.  Exploring those needs
would be very interesting.  Simple examples include adding a scale bar
to the image or annotation perhaps.

I kinda of like the idea of a social app/website for protocols and
reagent recipes. Where protocols can be shared, commented on at any
point, and maybe have a way to walk someone through it via chat or
audio. Right now I have been looking into electofusion protocols and
it would be nice to have chat with someone about it.

For my personal needs very well work https://wedoist.com/.
It is simple to do list on one hand and task manager on other hand.

Wedoist has stream of done work, like twitter.
May be it can feet to needs share actual work that is done.
