Although, I tried to take action to remove the defamatory information,
I received very little help from Google or from the independent
websites, where the posting landed.
I even sent out certified letters asking for removal of the defamatory
information and I did not receive any letters back or the removal of
the posts in question.
As for using the legal route for removing posts that are libelous, I
have been told by numerous attorneys that the fees to attempt removal
with no success guarantee would range upwards of $10,000, and likely
be around $50,000. I am afraid that the majority of the middle class
population cannot afford to pay $50,000 for false and defamatory posts
removal, so what are we to do?
I greatly support the free distribution of information, which is true.
For instance, if someone commits a serious crime, I believe that the
crime should be made public in order to protect and warn citizens.
But, what about when the information is clearly false?
I am curious to hear stories of cyberlibel from others who have been
been victims of internet slander. Recently, I started a non-profit
organization called Cyberlibel Organization, Inc. www.cyberlibel.org
in hope those who have had to face false and highly slanderous
remarks, like I have. My goals is to provide support to those affected
and to connect them with individuals who may be able to help. I am
also interested in partnering with law enforcement and legal
professionals in order to develop a system, which expedites defamatory
AND false information removal at a lower cost.
Please email me at he...@cyberlibel.org to share your story or to offer
your help to Cyberlibel Organization, Inc.
Thank you,
Anna Kubit
