Nomenclature for "Friends"

If you haven't been following Steve's Flickr stream, he's been working
on a DiSo plugin for Movable Type (yeah, it is Open Source now) for
managing an author's "friends". Last week we got to talking about
nomenclature and then I hunted Chris Messina down yesterday out here
in DC. What we've ended up with is the idea of using "People I Know"
to refer to the overarching group of everyone, it is friendly yet
doesn't infer how you know someone (like "friend" does) and should
localize fairly well. Contact then refers to an individual person,
while a bland and institutional term when presented with "People I
Know" they seem to balance themselves out fairly nicely. In our case
a Contact then has one or more Profiles across various services they
use.
