Hi Lia
Your plight reminds me of clearing out and packing up Dad's place in
the eastern states to move him over here. Mum and Dad had been in the
same house for 50 years, so there was an enormous amount of stuff. Some
of it (too much) we had shipped over here, but the rest we gave to
Anglicare who later told us they has raised about $2300 (which I think
they sent to the Tsunami appeal, as that was the year it was). I
wonder if it would help you to 'let go' of some of Stuart's stuff now,
since even at the Christmas Fair you may not sell it and will have to
pack it up all over again. Letting it go now may free you up for other
activities.
With Mum's stuff I chose some bits and pieces of china to sell at the
fete, and had grand ideas about putting high prices on them to raise as
much as possible. However, come the day, it gave me more pleasure to
let them go at lower prices - I remember one woman being delighted to
find a matching cup saucer plate set for one she had at home, and Thea
bought a couple. I see pieces like mine going for much more in second
hand shops, but in the end the pleasure some people got was beyond
price. I seem to remember the stall raised about $1000.
This is just a thought and completely gratuitous advice!
Love
Gabby
