Time is now running short…… today one of the children came to me and said only six days left………. I am so ‘here’ it was quite a surprise to know that there is only a few days left…… everyday there is something… many things to rejoice in….. and for that I smile and give thanks……. I’ve finished writing an ‘observation’ of, and maybe for, the school….. 30 pages that see the potential…. and that also see that there is a lot to be done….. Discussions with those at the school are incredibly frustrating…. However this is very much a cultural norm here….. and maybe also why a country so rich in resources has 24% living below the poverty line and is classed as a “Least Developed Country”….
I met with a German woman who has built a hospital and a community primarily for lepers…. And what an inspiration…… A very clear revelation that WE can make a difference in the world……. Her work…. If translated into the school situation would be stunning…….. And it is so easy to see how things can be achieved….. There should not be 20-40 cases of scabies at the school… nor TB…. Nor intestinal worms…..etc etc
And it’s not always about money…. It is also about organization (which is not a Nepali strength)……. Yesterday… I received a little gift and a letter from one of the boys and was told to open it when I got back to my room…… his letter is a treasure….. and today a hug of thanks that will last for a lifetime…… He is praying for ‘my’ long life and good health and the best for my future………… I touch eternity……
Tomorrow…. A full day of teaching (probably for the rest of the week) as one of the teachers is sick………… as if I need an excuse to spend more time with the children….

estimated 300 million cases per year, 1 million in US. It is a
condition that spreads easily between people with compromised immune
systems (as is TB). Treatment sounds worse than the disease -
malathione and lindane insecticides which I think have been banned in
Australia for some time). Wikipedia entry also says that measures such
as daily washing of bedding and clothes, plus steam ironing help to
control the spread (all of which is obviously going to be available to
an orphanage of 160 children - NOT). When I think of how nits spread
like wildfire through the boarding house at school, amongst students
with healthy un-compromised immune systems..........You've got to hand
it to the insects and mites - they've got this survival thing down to a
fine art.
