Four days away from the children… they had three days of term exams and I had a visit to the ancient town of Bhaktapur….. A slight change in the weather…. Winter is coming…  and like many around me I too have a cold…… A couple of the kids at the school have the nickname “mucous”…. One photo would tell you why!... and with a cold I know how they feel… but I’m getting over it quickly even though somewhat slowed down….. On Friday the school have organized a picnic… this is the ONLY day away from the school for most of the kids in a year… We’ve arranged three buses and are now stocking up on sick-bags in readiness for the trip….. Organising such an event for 160 children and some 18 staff is not possible within the school budget… however with nearly $750 form various St Paul’s donations “WE” have been able to underwrite the whole trip costing around $1000……

I’m planning to give a small gift to each of the staff….. as they only earn about $120 per month….. If I can give them all a weeks wages then for $600 they will receive a significant acknowledgement for the wonderful contribution they make to the lives of the children here…… I follow very much in Marie T’s footsteps… she’s been here and done that all before….so perhaps “WE” have created a new tradition somewhere far away, and yet very close……..

 

Last night had dinner with Suraj... the street kid from day 1........... And sometimes there is nothing that will help...... so just a meal... a break from the boredom for him.... and goodbye........

 

Today one of the kids showed me some new sores on his hands...... scabies - i think 43 kids suffer from it.......

 

two had a hospital visit yesterday... but back at school today...

 

and little mouse is good.......... but has TB.............

 

And that all hurts.........................

I am so glad my timing was good...and I am pleased that you are giving to the staff who do such a wonderful job...so I would like to donate another $250.00, maybe can help with purchasing 'stuff' to get rid of/control the scabies..you choose something worthy on my behalf please.
 
I was saddened to hear of little mouses TB...but I am sure you are both saddened and maybe gladdened by what you are seeing /experiencing...by being there..
 
I hope you are over your cold now..
