Hello all!

I'd like to introduce myself very briefly by saying that I have been
into alternative education since 1968, when I helped launch Rivendell
School in San Francisco.

It was not until much later that I learned about Sudbury Valley. I
opened two schools based on the SVS model, both on Maui. The first,
in 1993 opened too fast and we were all too inexperienced. The second,
Sudbury Maui, was open from 1999 to June 2005. That closed because of
a lack of resources, a deep personnel split between two main staffers
and a lack of firmness with the model on our part.

Preparing for this new venture, I have been relistening to many SVS
tapes and coaching myself not to make any similar mistakes. Many seeds
have been planted amidst the Maui families since my work with them in
a co-op preschool and in the facilitating of a Parenting Class.

I'm wondering if Liz or anyone on Maui is active with Sudbury in any way at this time. I have a 6 year old for whom this might be ideal, as he's very self-directed in pursuing his current interests and Waldorf is wondering if he's going to knuckle-down and focus on what the new teacher plans to teach....

How good to hear from you.

To be totally honest, I am active in mind only at this time.

At age 82 and very involved in some land issues that are time consuming, I can say there are two women who, separately, have contacted me about their dreams of starting schools. They each have a copy of Free At Last. 

I keep a short list of families that might be interested. I would

be happy to meet and talk story on Maui next week as I am on Oahu until the 18th.

We do not know if anyone on Maui is doing anything Sudbury-related.  If they are they haven't told us, but that doesn't mean it is not happening!  Kauai, yes.
