ever Freedom in Education Conference ~ Saturday, March 9, 2013, 9 a.m. - 5
p.m.Join us for a unique one-day conference focusing on
principles and practices of non-traditional education at Tallgrass Sudbury
School in Riverside, IL.
Featuring: Boston College Professor and
Psychology Today blog author, Dr. Peter Gray; philosopher and author, Lou
Marinoff; unschooling experts Laura Endres, Colleen Paeff and Abbi Miller,
representatives from Sudbury, Montessori and progressive schools, and professors
from DePaul, Northeastern IL, Oakland, and Concordia Universities.
Panels
and workshops will be focused on a variety of relevant topics including:
educating for uncertainty, the benefits of gaming, graduates of nontraditional
education, the science in support of freedom in learning and more!
Child
& teen programming for ages 3-12 and 13-up will be provided. Kids can
participate in science projects like making slime and boats, do arts &
crafts like friendship bracelets and watercolor painting, and see a magic show.
Teens can join a philosophy discussion with Dr. Marinoff, talk with unschooling
adventurer Abbi Miller, and network at our "Teen Coffeehouse" which will feature
open mike acoustic performances.
Lunch is included, and new books by Dr.
Marinoff and Dr. Gray will be available for purchase.
Kids under two
years old are welcome free under parental supervision.
