A Note About this Discussion Group
|
| |
Sometimes commentary and discussion about the teaching of Shri
Siddharameshwar or any true saint is useful and necessary, and
sometimes not. Nisargadatta in his great wisdom said in the
introduction to the book of his master's teachings, "I cannot explain
his words, therefore I keep quiet about that." indicating that one... more »

Visible Appearances are Untrue
"The listeners had asked previously, "If the universe (all that is
visible) is untrue then how can it be seen?" The answer is given now.
Please listen carefully." (Dasbodh - Chapter 6, Sub-chapter 8)
All appearance is Illusion (Maya) and the witness is Brahman. The... more »

Samartha Ramdas on Pure Brahman
|
| |
Dasbodh Chapter: 7, Sub-Chapter: 4
Explanation of Pure Brahman
...1. Brahman is more clear than the cloudless sky that appears empty
when looking at it. Like the sky, Brahman is formless, huge, and
limitless.
2. Twenty-one heavens and seven lower-worlds (patalas) are all
contained within the sphere of creation. The limitless pure Brahman... more »

The key to transcending Illusion lies in just doing nothing.
|
| |
Saint Tukaram said, "This God is quite ancient." The Self is first,
prior to all. He who has understood that the Supreme Being, Paramatman
who is prior to all while sitting in this body is a Jnani. Leaving
this God alone, people think of doing good or bad. That is Illusion
for the jiva. Maya makes man knowledgeable and a narrator of the... more »

Illusion Dissolved
|
| |
Illusion Dissolved ______________________________ ________ The sun is the cause of day and night. Without the sun you cannot say, "This is day" or "This is night." Experience and reporting experience to others are only within the field of Illusion. Had it been the case that I am one thing, and Brahman is something other, then it would have been possible to tell somebody about the experience. See the wonder of this. He who was not born, was sleeping. In the dream, he saw another dream. In it, he achieved Knowledge by the blessings of the Guru, and then he disappeared. When there was nothing, what remained was his "Natural Essential Existence." He was awakened while he was discussing what "Knowledge" means. If you can catch the meaning of this, you will also have similar contentment. There is unity without the intervention of speech. The entity saw a dream within a dream, and he became awake by having arisen from sleep.... more »

The Use of the Human Life
|
| |
The Use of the Human Life The Inner-Self is "the knower." Nobody can see the limit of his capacities. Dialogue with one's Self should be constant. This will bring about tremendous Joy. The more thoughtful that one is, the more content he will be. The Almighty Supreme Self, Paramatman, creates the whole world, yet He is not visible. He can be known by thinking deeply and by being compassionate. He meets you through constant meditation. You get something only when you become very determined about it. One who removes worldly thoughts and thinks only about the Self with strong determination will realize and attain That state. By constant contact only with the false, you get only the false. One sees or feels only that which the mind is always thinking about. Therefore, you should always think about God, and talk only about Him. The one who is determined about realizing Him is the true devotee. If determination is not there, one is not a true devotee. The pinnacle of all worship is... more »

Discrimination and Detachment
|
| |
Discrimination and Detachment If one understands that objects are only a temporary appearance, and becomes convinced that objects cannot really provide true happiness, then the apparent reality of the objects automatically fades away. It then becomes possible for one to develop detachment for those objects that were previously held dear to one as true. A wooden toy in the shape of a tamarind pod is not a real tamarind pod. It is made of wood. However, unless one has the discriminative ability to be able to tell the difference, the sight of the wooden tamarind is sure to make one's mouth start watering. The reason for this is the conviction that the thing is real. Once one becomes aware that the tamarind is made of wood, he may appreciate the artistic or aesthetic lines of the toy, but it will not affect his salivary glands. This discriminative knowledge, or the recognition that it is not real, results in true detachment towards the object. This example shows us that the detachment... more »
