Hello
Curate Campers!
Looking forward to seeing you all next week! Several of you have sent in
questions in response to my last message. Here are some answers and
additional details.
Is late check-in available? Yes! The Stern Conference Front Desk
shown on this map http://www.stanford.edu/dept/rde/scs/area/mapSternCO.html
is open until 8pm. After that, you can call the posted number to reach an
On-Duty staff person for check in.
Note: Curate Camp has been re-located to Stern: Casa Zapata
When will we eat? Sandwiches will be available on Sunday evening for
people to pick up as they arrive--so no set meal time on Sunday.
Monday and Tuesday--breakfast is at 8am, lunch at 12:30. All are welcome.
Commuters, if you want breakfast and morning coffee, join the rest of the
campers at the Stern Dining Hall. Coffee will not be available in the
meeting rooms.
Monday, dinner is at 6pm, after the digitization lab tours, scheduled for
4:30. Again, all are welcome. Following dinner, there will be an
"encampment". Stay tuned for details...
Tuesday dinner is on your own for people who are staying over. There are
lots of dining options available: http://www.stanford.edu/dept/visitorinfo/activities/dining.html
What's the meeting schedule? We'll convene in the Meyer Library
Flex Lab (2nd floor) at 9am. This is an unconference! We'll map out the
details and content then.
Do we have to bring our own linens? No! Linens; bedspreads, sheets,
pillow and pillowcase, blanket, two towels and a washcloth, soap, soap
dish, and paper cups are provided.
What are parking logistics? If you are arriving on Sunday, you can
purchase a parking pass when you check in. Parking gets more complicated
during the week. For commuters who arrive early--like before 8:30 for
breakfast, we'll plan to have an area set up in the Stern Dining hall
where you can purchase a parking pass for the Resident Student Permit
Lots; EA, ES, SO, WE, and SJ. You can park in one of these spots, pick up
your pass, and take it back to your car.
If you arrive after 8:30am on Monday, plan to park in one of the visitor
pay lots http://transportation.stanford.edu/parking_info/VisitorParking.shtml
(Wilbur structure, for example). You'll be able to buy a pass for Tuesday
some time during the day on Monday.
Note: Stanford strongly encourages use of alternative transportation; car
pooling, biking, public transportation. Learn more about these options on
the Parking and Transportation web site http://transportation.stanford.edu/alt_transportation/AlternativeTransportation.shtml
What about network access? We will provide guest wireless access.
This access will work in the meeting rooms, but not in the dorms. (You
could always bring your laptop back over to the first floor of Meyer
Library after hours if need be--it's a short walk from Stern.)
That's it for now! See y'all soon!
