Hi All,

PayPal has frozen our account and will not allow us to accept payments anymore.  Even though we've had an account with them since the Diaspora* Project started in 2010, they have frozen us anyway.

This could not have come at a worst time for us, as Dan, Ilya, and Max are putting out other fires right now with respect to our upcoming beta launch (just 2-3 weeks away!).

So I'm wondering: Could any of you help us get all the Stripe code up and running for us?  All the info is here:  https://stripe.com/docs

Also, we've spoken to the Stripe founders over the phone, and they're going to see if they can do it themselves as an open-source contribution for us.  But I figured I would ask you all as well, just in case Stripe can't do it.

Thanks,

Yosem

Unfortunately, that's always a danger you face when dealing with PayPal. In fact, it seems like the more legitimate you are, the more likely you are to have your account frozen (I've seen scammers go for years with no problems, while legitimate marketers and non-profits run into constant trouble). Unless you're selling on eBay, they really don't care, they aren't subject to any banking laws and their TOS says they can do it, so they're happy to freeze your account and earn a profit off of your money for however long they want to hold it (up to 6 months in some cases) with no explanation of why they did it.

Glad to hear Stripe stepped in to help you make things right, I have a little bit of experience with their API (mostly from running through the RailsCast a few times lol) so if I would have caught this earlier I would have offered to help get you set up with them. :)
