Hi folks,

To get the ball rolling a bit on community development, I've decided to take the initiative and start stripping out old Beta Features. Things such as the "Beta" profile view, the beta stream, and the Framer are the first on my agenda for stripping out. They're largely unused by a majority of our users, and a lot of the Beta designs ended up being more applicable to the design of Makr.

You can check my current progress in this branch on my GitHub fork. If anyone has any input or insight on things that could also be removed that are related to the old beta, let me know! For loom.io users, you can vote on this issue here. The poll will close in one week.

Best,
Sean

Hi,

Not completely related to the beta but how do other people feel about returning the single post view to as it was before - or just redesigning it? I'd be willing to participate in this as soon as I have time (we just moved, been keeping us busy lately and will be keeping us busy for a week maybe).

To be very honest the single post view as it is now is very user unfriendly. It just doesn't work and most of the time it doesn't even look good. Some posts have to be viewed in a stream to even see them properly. Writing and browsing comments is a pain because they are limited to a little window.

Any feelings on this?

Br,
Jason

I like the idea of single post view and think it looks great in some instances. It's bold and I'm a big fan of pushing the envelope; I would be sad if we reverted completely.

But I agree that the current implementation is broken and badly needs to be fixed.

I think  while posting , there should be an option  to enable single post view.

I'm a bit divided on the issue myself. I think in a lot of ways, the single post view was a really cool idea, but it's not for everyone.

While making the single post view optional would be one workaround to the problem, I worry that making something like that optional would make for sub-optimal UX.

I think it's important to keep in mind that we have to think about what the default user experience needs to be, and adding a toggle switch for a wildly different presentation of posts only adds complexity to the code and the design.

Although I know some people like it, I feel that the simplest solution would be to revert it to the old post view. The newer one was part of a work towards the Beta design, which as a whole ended up becoming very different from the experience expected from D*.

Just my 2 cents.

Hi folks!

Just wanted to bump this up really quick. I've got a Pull Request waiting in the wings that will strip every single thing related to the Beta publisher and Beta profiles. This does not include the Single Post View, as I believe that to be a separate issue.

My PR should be good to pull, controllers dealing with Feature Flagging have all been cleaned up, and a migration to remove profile wallpapers from the DB has been added. I would just like to take a moment before merging to see if any extra sets of eyes would like to look over the pull to see that I haven't missed anything. After all, we wouldn't want any users stuck in the Beta role to suddenly be unable to use D*.

Thanks,
Sean
