Recently I was informed that Chilton Public Library will be awarded a small
grant that I wrote in December to expand technology and create a makerspace.
Now I am feeling like I was when my first child was born. I thought I knew
what I was getting into but would like some guidance/encouragement from
those who have experience. Specifically, I will need to make choices on how
to equip the area and experienced people to teach classes on how to use the
equipment. I would also like to display cool projects if you have something
to loan.

Chilton Public Library is like many libraries who struggle with sustaining
funding from our municipality. Hopefully city fathers will see value through
this and the other projects and increase the municipal appropriation. That
said here is what Chilton Public Library can offer for your participation:
Glory, you will be recognized and immortalized in some way within our
makerspace. Gas money, we do not have much but we may be able to scrape
together a few dollars to pay mileage within reason. Networking, some really
cool cats will be hanging around and I do have some of the most creative and
intelligent friends in the universe IMO.

I can be contacted through this email or at the library

Congratulations on the grant, Steve! Whoever funded that grant for the Chilton Library is way ahead of the city of Appleton and the Appleton Library in their vision for what a library can and should be...

For some ideas on how to implement your makerspace, if you haven't already connected with a couple small libraries that have makerspaces, you might want to work on getting those connections. No need to reinvent the wheel.

There are a ton of online resources regarding makerspaces in libraries. Here are a couple links that might be of interest if you didn't already see them:

Steve,
Your not alone as a small library using grants for makerspace tools. Recently the Lomira library has been working on getting some of its own makerspace gadgets including a 3d printer, arduino, lego mindstorms, and rasperberry pi. This past week Lomira even hosted a Make/Lomira week and ended it with a mini maker fair on Saturday. You might want to track down Shannon Barniskis, she if leading the effort in Lomira.  I don't have her email address but she should be easy to find on Google Plus or via the Library website.

Here are a couple photos from the Mini Maker Fair on Saturday.
Also a few more detail about the event

Hi Again Steve - We met at the WLAF fundraiser last fall.  You, me and Shannon Barniskis are all SOIS people.  We should start some kind of club!

Can I come over and see what you're up to sometime?  I don't know if I can offer any worthwhile advice, but I'm definitely interested in what our library neighbors are doing - we're starting to make our own plans.
