Dear friends,

I would like to share this charming story with you.

A friend of ours traveling in Thailand came across this beautiful wall mural painting when visiting the new Kwan Yin pagoda at Wat Phrao in Bangkok. Such a surprise - the faces were familiar ones!

Perhaps you may recognize at least one of bhikkhunis, the venerable Ayya Sudhamma, who visited us recently for Bhikkhuni Training at our hermitage, the Western Buddhist Monastic Conference, and to give Dhamma teachings in the Bay Area and Southern California - (she is on the left). Ven Bhikkhuni Sudhamma was the first American women to go for full bhikkhuni ordination in Sri Lanka when it began to be offered again there 8 years ago.  On the right is pictured Venerable Bhiksuni Kuang Seng, Elder of the modern Chinese-Thai Mahayana Bhiksuni Sangha which was founded and supported by the late Princess Kalayani and her daughter.  The mural was painted based upon a photo taken on International Women's Day in 2006 at the United Nations in Bangkok, where both venerables were honored.
