2003 was an important year in my work as a musician, painter, writer, etc.; and
maybe a noteworthy year in the history of art. 2003 was the year I spotlighted
30 years of my art work in a number of special issues of Musea, my monthly
zine. Now that it’s about done (2 issues to go in 2004) and all my work is
either presented through these special issues OR has already appeared in the
earlier 120 issues of Musea - I can say this:
I think no one in art has done more art in more varied areas with higher
quality than I have.
Had I said that bold statement before 2003, some readers may well have said,
“Talk, talk, talk”. But now I have the evidence in print (and on the
website) - it’s “There, there there.” And all this culminating from my
year long publishing event. Now that’s conceptual art! Finally, I can say
with relief, most of my art work and art ideas - a lifetimes worth - are out
there - there where everyone can see them.
Certainly I am the first to say that in each individual art form there are
rtists t
xat surpass me - there have been better composer or musicians orsingers, there
have been better painters, there have been better novelists or poets, or
playwrights, or essayists etc. But there has not been any single artist in
history that has done all the above, plus film scripts, architectural design,
clothes design, and all the rest listed below. In all these fields I’ve done
as much as my time and resources has allowed me to do.
So now - now that 2003 is over and 2004 is about to begin, I would like to list
my reasons why I feel this is an important culminating year in art, and such a
noteworthy year in art for me. Then you investigate and deterimine for
yourself. It’s all there for all to see.
