Guidelines for running a devopsdays event - v1

Since 2009 , we've run a few events ... More and more we get questions about people who want to run a 'local' devopsdays event.

For this we've compiled a document[1] that can help you get started. It's a rough-cut but will be helpful.

Feel free to comment on it and provide suggestions and if you have an interest in running one in 2013 do let us know!

We'd be happy to coordinate.

paris will be approx. 15 & 16 April 2013
austin will be approx. 30 April & 1st of May 2013
berlin will be in may

so yea, june sounds good to me :)

Looking at http://www.devopsdays.org/, Mountainview is listed as June.

Scheduling Toronto and Mountainview in the same month seems like a lose
to me. A month apart for momentum would be grand, but at the same time
will only hurt both.

both sides of the Pond, yet. Otoh, I don't see anything in July.

having devopsdays MTV close to velocity last year seemed to work pretty well, quite a few folks aren't gonna fly around just for devopsdays, but they seemed to do so for the combo and at least make it to one of the two days. just a thought.

From the looks of it, late-July / early-August would be best for Toronto. We'll have to think on how end-of-summer vacations might play into things.

I agree with Spike -- if you can pair your date with an Ops conference, or a Dev conference (look for Agile conferences), in the same city that week, it will serve you well.  I personally find it a little easier to get travel approval for 2 conferences back to back.

We had a good meet up yesterday, with about 40 people attending out of which we now have an organizing committee of about 8 people willing to put in the work to make devopsdays Amsterdam happen in June. We will get working ASAP!

GotoCon Amsterdam.

we will have an update at short notice. Tomorrow we google hangout with PAtrick (Debois). Monday we have a meeting with the other organisers of Devops Days Amsterdam.

Back to back with gotocon sounds like the best option. The overlap in events will be minimal and only on the other side of the pond. When we focus on different speakers this might not be an issue.
