Hi Lin,
You asked how one would know if their disease was Monophasic (One
attack only.) versus a Relapsing disease course. That's just it,
there is no concrete way of knowing. Roughly 80 per cent of all cases
are Relapsing and the same number are women. Typically, a Monophasic
(One attack only.) patient is hit very hard with their first and only

 Cara,
I am crying as I read these posts. They are so beautiful and loving. The level of compassion and support here is more than touching, it is truly a gift. Please never feel ashamed to want to spare a loved from pain and suffering. Instead, feel proud that you found the courage to be there with your beloved friend as she makes this incredibly difficult decision. Rejoice in your friendship and that you have the amount of love necessary in your heart to stand by your friend no matter what. You know so many of us have lost even those who we thought were good or best friends as they have found it too much of a challenge to witness us when we are very ill. Not you Cara, you suck it us not allowing your own feelings to take away from your time with Cindy. I love you Cara. You are a straight shooter and I wish I had one ounce of the courage you have shown these past few years.

 Cara dear,
Just catching up on my email from the past few days to read your posts re Cindy's current situation. I don't even know how to put into words what I am feeling. And that isn't fair as it is Cindy and her family as well as you her BFF(for real) who are going through the agonizing decision making process. I ache for Cindy and her need to know too much about her disease inorder to make decisions that no one should have to make. The courage needed to make these decisions makes me feel weak in the knees. Knowing that Carey and Lisa are going through the same process for their little fellow can knock the breath out of you.

Lisa, Cara, I just want to wrap both of you up in a big hug. You are both such special, amazing, STRONG women. Your families and friends are all so blessed to have you in their lives. Making medical decisions is HARD and can be agonizing. When you have to make them for a loved one, it's exponentially worse. You don't always know what's the right thing to do, but all anyone can do is their best, and I have NO DOUBT that you both do exactly that. Lisa, I'm so glad that Mishelle is ok. I know you must have been terrified.

 Cara,
DO NOT BE ASHAMED!! You have NOTHING to be ashamed over, nothing! You have
fought with her, cried with her, mourned the loss of her functions with her,
etc. You have been her friend! It is nothing shameful to not want her to do
this, really! I feel the same way about Collin too. I don't want him to do

Nancy this was beautiful. I hate that the nurse sd that to you, but I love that your dad proved her wrong! I also love that surgeon! What a man!

You are exactly right. Bottom line is I am scared but Cindy wants to fight....so I fully support her!

Sitting with her now as she sleeps listening to my daughter type on a laptop and playing with Cindy's 3 year old nephew.
