Hi,

I am also experiencing the black dvd menu issue the others have
reported previously. I've tried switching to mencoder as the backend,
and even though the menu is displayed correctly when using mencoder,
the playback of the resulting dvd stutters (there is a slight jump/
stutter during the video playback each 0.5 - 1 seconds).

The DVD I am trying to make is one with a custom background image (JPG/
PNG), custom menu sound, and a single dvd title consisting of a single
VOB (I choose the setting to not encode the video file "useful for VOB
files" when adding the VOB to the DVD).

I am running the DeVeDe v3.21.0 in Ubuntu 12.04, stock installation of
mencoder and other needed libraries. What is quite noticable is that
both my laptop and desktop computers exibit the same mencoder problem.

Also, while I was using Ubuntu 11.10, I remember having the same
issues with mencoder as the backend (and v3.21.0 of DeVeDe installed
from a deb from the official DeVeDe site), however, switching to
ffmpeg as the backend, both menu and video playback were perfect.

Using ffmpeg as the backend in Ubuntu 12.04 still produces perfect
video playback, however, there is this known issue with the black
menus.

Could anyone help me debug the mencoder issue?

Thank you in advance,
Veroslav

Is this is the same problem I ran into some time ago, you can try to
change the PAL/SECAM setting on the video.

Hi Johan,

thank you for your response. Is the setting you mention (PAL/SECAM)
the one located on the window that imports a new clip or on the main
window?
I dont have access to DeVeDe at the moment, unfortunately.

I remember that I was using the PAL option somewhere, I am not aware
of any other options, but I will have a look when I am at home.

I don't remember. I usually play a bit with both and somethimes the
stuttering disappears...

The main setting is used as default value each time you add a video by
dropping it. The one you have to set is the one in the window settings.
