Hi, Who would be in for a Saturday night dinner at Shangrila
Chinese Restaurant near Wayne State University? Probably one of the
first two Saturday's in May. What are your special requests (be
creative)? I'll compile the feedback and present the proposal to Chef
Raymond Wang, and confirm a budget based on the final agreed upon
selections.

We are interested, but too sunburned and inebriated today to
comment intelligently!

Life in at the Four Seasons in Nevis is tough.  Tough!
I have to decided betw a Pina Colada or Banana Mudslide?
Do I want the hot stone massage, or deep tissue? Or ... or ...

Then there is the matter of pretty girls.  One of'm cut me
down to size by asking if the young stud on the diving board
was my son.  Pffft.

I'm in, either Saturday night works for me so far. Since I couldn't
make the XLB event, I'd love to have them do XLB again, in addition to
the noodles... even if they might not necessarily go together. But
really, anything we can't get anywhere else in metro Detroit is fine
with me!

The first of May works for me. I'm open to anything, as long as the
food's good. If the chef is worthy, which it seems like he is, I
always enjoy putting it in his hands and seeing what he comes up
with.

Sorry about the ambiguous description of the date proposals. When I
said, "one of the first two Saturdays in May," I meant May 7 or 14.
In any event, it looks like we have a broad positive response for
***MAY 7***, so let's preliminarily progress with that date (at
7pm).

It also appears that, unlike the unified theme of dumplings, people
aren't jumping on an "all noodle" concept. So, I'll take your
specific suggestions from above, and then draft a menu with Chef
Wang. I report back before finalizing things. The dumpling dinner
was very reasonable in price so I don't think price will be an issue,
not to mention that Shangrila's openness to separate checks protects
those like Pepsi-sipper Boagman from having to subsidize JanPrimus'
high octane throwdown.

Leveraging the leadership tools I've gleaned from Goat Golfer, I'll
start a running/publishing a tally of the RSVPs. We may have plenty
enough people already right here on the Google Board, so I probably
won't post an invitation update on Chowhound, unless you guys think it
really would be the swell and right thing to do. KEEP IN TOUCH, in
case I/we have changes or updates.

Episode Meat with Heat. Tivo got it Sat 4/30 11pm. Very interesting to

Hi Guys :-)
We're still on for this Saturday! To be honest, Chef Wong seems kind
of busy and Mother's Day diners won't make things any slower. I've
not been able to spend time with him in a calm/quiet environment. He
has something in mind, so I think the best thing is to just let him
"run with it." He will make wheat noodles with Dan Dan sauce, and his
thought is to also serve a wide sampling of other noodle doughs, so we
can compare and contrast---mung bean starch noodle, yam starch noodle,
rice noodle, extruded, pulled (not on site), kneaded & shaved or
sliced, etc. The sauces would vary, and include fish, vegetable,
beef, etc. Not a perfect night for Atkins dieters, but should be fun.
Here is where I think the roster currently stands (pls inform me of

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it this Saturday. Extremely disappointing as since I found out about the event my craving for 担担面 has reached epic proportions. 

Hope everybody has a great time and hopefully someone will take pictures so everyone else can see all the great food we missed!

Thanks Paul. It was a blast, and I certainly hope to see everybody
soon. I fell a bit short, compared to you, with the organizational
skills: I probably should have gone with a $15 budget (because I—and
everyone?-- was full half way thru), I forgot the name tags, and I
probably should have micromanaged the menu. Also not sure why
separate bills were do-able last time, but suddenly not this time. In
any event, the noodles with the diced mushrooms were excellent, and
the seafood broth with noodles was quite nice in my opinion. The “Dan
Dan” noodles were, well, confusing. The location was good and I also
crossed-off two items from my bucket list in ONE night—meeting donbui
and berkleybabe! I love that Christina and Peter come over from
Windsor…we should return the favor some time. I didn’t have a chance
to much meet Andy, or to chat with my favorite Coast Guard pilot Doug
Rainsux. But, I’ll show up early at the “Trizest* Night of
Destruction” (I think that’s how Oppsie put it) and catch up
then. :-)

*damn, Trizest doesn’t have a liquor license. Perhaps we should meet
at Kuhnhenn for a pre-game or post-game imbibe, or we should somehow
“fly under the radar,” if you get my drift.

PS—It’s pretty neat how generations spanning four decades can meet up
for a good time and have things in common over which to converse.

Vince, I was told after I took the table pics that you're photo-averse; those have been deleted.

Anyhow, I got everything except for the Singapore noodles, which is sad because I liked them best. And, the photo quality went down as the meal went on...and the carbs hit my brain.
