Description: Discussion of the Desktop CouchDB project, putting CouchDB on every desktop and having applications store contacts and data and preferences in it.

FYI: UbuntuOne drops (desktop-)couchdb
Hi, actually somebody from the ubuntu one and desktopcouch team should at least inform these mailing lists about the decision. It makes one wonder, that these two lists remain rather dead for so long and then out of nothing desktop couch is dropped without any prior sign of any warning: [link]... more »

compatibility with portable contacts aka opensocial
Hi, I'm investigating contacts and calendaring standards and protocols for my bachelor thesis[1] and found to my horror that while desktop couch has a json schema for contacts it is incompatible with the json schema of portable contacts[2] which is in turn a part of open social. What is the status of desktop couch would a schema change or migration... more »

Proposed desktopcouch changes
Hi all, we (some of the desktopcouch developers) are currently sprinting in Orlando, and aside from adding documentation, fixing bugs and general cleanup, we have a few items that we'd like wider feedback on, since we're thinking of some fundamental changes. Please tell us what you think, or ask questions where things are unclear. Also join us in the... more »

Misc. questions about startup, running when not logged in, and stable addressing.
Hi all, So I really like couchDB, and I really like the idea of desktopCouch, I just have a couple of concerns about using it in my applications where I'd like them to be able to also run on vanilla couchDB also. Of course, it's possible I missed something and these use cases are already handled in some way.... more »

Adding photos for contacts desktopcouch schema
Hi Since last time we did a change to the schema, we didn't discuss it deeply in the list and that ended up in blocking the changes for inclusion in Ubuntu, we've decided to do it better this time. So, we need to add a field to the contacts schema ([link] )... more »

Storing arbitrary GObjects from Python / Fine-grained Synchronization
Hello everybody, I talked to the people at #couchdb on freenode irc about my ideas some days ago and I was sent here to present my ideas here and hear what you think about them. First I want to talk about storing arbitrary gobjects. I thought it would be nice to have the possibility to store arbitrary gobjects in a... more »
