Steve and Nona wright and myself had a "Little" Fly-In committee meeting last night at Round Table Pizza. Most Fly-In tasks are covered, although I have not heard back from everyone that I e-mailed ~ the big jobs are close to being covered. Wade e-mailed me and said he would weed eat the road to the top if someone could loan him a weed eater (anyone?) Kyle e-mailed me and we will not be having the Moon Mt. Ramblers this year ~ Steve Roti e-mailed me and has a couple of bands that I believe he is going to get one of for Sat. night. Kyles e-mailed said he could help out with the Fly-In so maybe he can help Wade with the road. The road to the top needs to be done NO LATER THAN 3 WEEKS BEFORE THE FLY-IN.

Secretary Mike Teixeria needs to contact the Forest Service ~ Please refer to Bill Walker for advice on this ~ Thanks

If any of you would like to HELP put this years (18th annual) Fly-In on I'm sure there will be some small job you could help with ~ please e-mail me and let me know.

Thanks Kids, we plan on making this a GREAT FLY-IN for all !!!!!!

See you on the hill
Frankie

Wade – you can use our weed eater – it’s what we used last year.  I’ll do whatever I can to help.  I picked up some raffle swag from Ozone and Nova last week, remind me to give it to you.

Guess I should have checked my email before I went to round table.

Anyway, I will contact the forest service and bill walker and get a
count of our inventory/funds out to you all soon.

The two bands I mentioned to Frankie are The Mostest and the Anvil Blasters, both of which I like and have personal contacts with the musicians.

Do I have the go-ahead to book a band for Saturday night? If so, how much are we willing to spend on a band?

I've booked the Anvil Blasters for Sunday evening, August 31, from
9:00 to 11:00 pm.

http://www.anvilblasters.com/anvilblasters/

The Anvil Blasters hail from Central Oregon sharing a unique
repertoire of artfully arranged acoustic Americana music at venues and
private parties all over the High Desert region.

In addition to original numbers, the Blasters cover such luminaries as
Steve Earle, Dave Carter, Dave Alvin, Ian Tyson, Tom Russell, Gillian
Welch, and Johnny Cash just to name a few. The band favors writers
that pen new songs about the old west, ditties that tear at the heart
while tapping the toes, and killin' songs ("somehow life takes on more
meaning when ya' ponder the dyin' part").

And, of course they fire-up a few traditionals that are older than
dirt, including several rippin' banjo tunes with the Anvil Blasters'
twist.

F e a t u r i n g :

Jim Cornelius — vocals & guitar
Charley Engel — harmonicas, percussion & vocals
Gary Miller — dobro, mandolin, banjo & guitar
Jeff Woodruff — stand-up bass
Lynn Woodward — vocals, mandolin & guitar

All,

The fire danger logistics for the summit have been handled. The road,
pull-outs, and parking have been weed-wacked (thanks Josh H and Kim
P). The USFS/DNF has issued a conditional permit to use the summit
road under industrial fire precaution level 2. If it goes to 3, I
need to call back and have a formal use permit issued with provisions
based on the current fire risk.

One more clean-up issue to mention: The weeds have started to take over the pea gravel area near the Rock "L". I've pulled a few weeds this summer, but there are still plenty more to pull. If half a dozen pilots put in 10-15 minutes each I'll bet we could vanquish the weeds so bring some gardening gloves and put in a few minutes pulling before or after your evening flights. Having the full pea gravel area available will help considerably during the fly-in when we have more pilots than usual landing at the Rock "L".

Hi Wade,

For Shwag sponsors check the website for the fly-in for two years ago.
There is a list of sponsors there. For last year I hit up:

MPH Sports - Gail Haley
Torrey Pines
Eagle Paragliding
Super Fly
Free Flight Enterprises-Wills Wing
Nick Crane-Tour of Costa Rica
Flytec
Critter mountain wear
Kevin Lee
Steve Roti
Discover Paragliding

Phone calls followed by an email the same day works quite well.

Good luck,

Billy
